Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Control Systems Supervisor to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the commissioning, startup, and operation of a new sophisticated facility from the ground up.

 

The Control Systems Supervisor is responsible for leading, developing, and mentoring a team of process control engineers and technical professionals. This team supports the daily operations of the olefins, polyethylene, and utilities units, providing technical direction and resources for process control system maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and project execution to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the production assets. In the initial phase, this role will be heavily focused on Commissioning and Startup activities. The supervisor will lead the process control team to ensure the facility is properly commissioned and will support a safe, orderly, and timely startup of the plant. This includes coordinating resources, verifying system readiness, resolving control‑related issues, and ensuring alignment with operational, maintenance, and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures effective technical support is provided to process areas
  • Supervises and supports a group of engineers and specialists 
  • Provides technical guidance to engineers and specialists  
  • Ensures projects with control system scope are supported and meet plant requirements
  • Provides technical support for day-to-day and long-term operation of process areas
  • Helps develop an annual capital budget for process control areas

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least 7 years of experience OR Associate degree in instrumentation or electronics with at least 10 years of experience
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Can read and understand design documents. (P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, etc.) 
  • Basic knowledge of industrial control systems
  • Experience reading control logic diagrams
  • Programming experience
  • Experience in plant environment
  • Able to configure in PLC, DCS, and/or SIS
  • Experience designing control strategies in the DCS
  • Have worked with control system design projects, DCS migration projects, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical or Chemical engineering degree
  • Experience with virtualization and/or IT/OT network administration
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Polyethylene/Ethylene experience
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV Control System
  • Experience with Control Systems Lifecycle Management
  • Experience with Commissioning/Startup
