Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a shift Fire & Safety Technician to join our environmental, health, safety and security (EHSS) team at the new Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, Texas. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the startup and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The selected applicant will be responsible for supporting and executing fire & safety programs and ERT activities for the GTP facility. Following startup, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Responds to fires, EMS, rescue and other emergencies including mutual aid using the appropriate equipment.
- Supports the Incident Management Team (IMT).
- Evaluates appropriate strategies and tactics to align with incident objectives (i.e. methods to control and extinguish fires).
- Supports the work of team members.
- Records and communicates emergency preparedness-related records and metrics.
- Implements emergency preparedness internal policies.
- Monitors budget deviations to control costs.
- Develops emergency response pre-plans relating to building layouts, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, and alarms.
- Identifies risks and mitigates life-safety concerns.
- Relays instructions and information quickly and accurately.
- Troubleshoots fire alarm system and fire suppression system issues.
- Plans and participates in off-site training.
- Maintains all site fire protection and fire suppression systems.
Performs general inspection, testing, and maintenance on emergency response equipment. - Maintains equipment compliance (DOT, PHMSA, API, NFPA).
- Helps with fire investigations to find the root cause and origin.
- On a 24-hour basis, responds to emergencies.
- Prepares and analyzes damage assessments following disasters or emergencies.
- Participates in emergency response drills and exercises.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Prior industrial or municipal ERT experience
- Class C driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 5 years of full-time industrial emergency response experience.
- Associate or higher degree in emergency response, safety, or closely related field
- EMT-B or higher license through National Registry/TDH
- Certified in Industrial NFPA 1081 Fire, NFPA 1006 Rescue, and 1910.120, NFPA 472 Hazmat
- At least 1 year of experience in conducting hazard identifications, incident investigations (i.e., root cause analysis), and internal audits of plant emergency response programs
- At least 2 years of on-scene command experience
- Incident Command System qualifications (NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800)
- Fire water system inspection, testing and PM experience
- Strong computer, verbal and written communication abilities, team and meeting facilitation skills, and organization and program deployment capabilities
- Extensive emergency response leadership experience within industrial facilities (e.g., incident command, etc.)
- Class A or B Driver’s License
