Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Sr. Construction Specialist for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the commissioning, startup, and operation of a new plant built from the ground up.

 

The Sr. Construction Specialist position is responsible for providing construction support and expertise to the portfolio of site-managed projects as well as general oversite of the project team’s third-party construction service providers. The successful candidate in this role must demonstrate a proactive commitment to a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of site and project safety requirement, ensuring the safe execution of work.
  • Support development and maintenance of collaborative safety culture in construction with contractors in partnership with company and contractor safety experts
  • Supports Project Team during IFA reviews, project walkdowns, constructability reviews and kick-off meetings
  • Ability to understand and communicate critical path and execution
  • Ensures construction planning/scheduling is progressing per plan and adapt as needed
  • Guide large teams to deliver project scope while adhering to budget and timeline constraints.
  • Proactively identify risks and roadblocks, escalating issues outside the scope of authority.
  • Attends working sessions with stakeholders to gather feedback and refine requirements.
  • Maintain issue/action logs to ensure timely resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Understanding of construction and project execution practices - various craft and skill requirements
  • Facilitates productivity audits / field walks with vendors / constructability reviews
  • Accountable for delivering project control needs, headcount, timesheets and invoice approvals
  • Seeks opportunities to reduce risk, share resources, and optimize time
  • Review contractor's progress/schedule and quality performance against plan and benchmarks.  Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, cost and schedule
  • Familiar with contract commercial terms and conditions.  Support construction and project leadership to achieve project objectives without creating commercial risk (claims, cost increases).

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED
  • At least 7 years in construction project execution, specialist roles or equivalent experience
  • At least 7 years of project controls practice experience (e.g. SAP, Tracks)
  • At least 7 years of construction field support with demonstrated increases in responsibility
  • At least 5 years of reading and understand construction drawings including mechanical flow diagrams, piping isometrics, and plot plans
  • Experience with business computer programs - Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
  • Able to understand/use project documents including Primavera P6, P&ID's, specs, mechanical/piping/electrical documents.  Familiar with using 3D models, other project design software

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of construction field support with demonstrated increases in responsibility
  • At least 10 years managing and working with contractors in an in-plant construction environment.
  • Large, world-scale plant experience
  • Language skills - able to communicate in written and spoken English and common language of craft workers.  Multiple languages a plus
  • Extensive experience contributing construction‑focused insights early in project development to influence scope definition, improve execution strategy, and identify and mitigate potential construction risks before they impact field execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to resolve constraints, validate field assumptions, and support decision‑making for constructability, scheduling, and execution strategy.
  • Advanced understanding of plant safety systems (safe work permitting, Lock/Tag/Try, SIMOPS, critical lifts, hot work, line breaks, dig permits, etc.).
