Introduction
Join CPChem as a dedicated Process Operator based in Pasadena within our Manufacturing & Projects division. This role is a pivotal part of our Operations team, where the commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement in plant process operations is paramount. As a Process Operator, you will be directly involved in monitoring and managing process equipment to ensure the smooth and safe production of high-quality plastic resins. Responsibilities
- Implement adjustments to operational processes promptly to ensure safety and maintain high reliability, working within predefined quality parameters.
- Continuously monitor process alarms and equipment constraints, responding swiftly to mitigate potential disruptions.
- Execute controlled startup and shutdown procedures for plant equipment, prioritizing safety and process integrity.
- Coordinate closely with Maintenance teams by preparing equipment for scheduled work and ensuring safe and timely return to service.
- Monitor and record real-time operational data, including flow rates, temperatures, pressure levels, and other vital process variables, utilizing advanced instrumentation and control room Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting complex processes and mechanical issues, employing a systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving.
- Collect product samples systematically for laboratory analysis to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Diligently observe the Tenets of Operations, Chief Operating Officer directives, and Life Saving Rules to always uphold workplace safety.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the work environment to support operational efficiency and safety.
- Manage the safe loading and unloading of chemical shipments using established protocols to prevent accidents and contamination.
- Mentor and provide training resources to new and existing operators to foster a knowledgeable and competent team.
- Engage actively in regulatory and operational training programs to stay informed and compliant with evolving industry standards.
- Participate in key safety and operational reviews including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) to contribute to operational excellence and risk mitigation.
- Prepare comprehensive shift turnover reports and document all relevant operational data accurately as per unit management guidance.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED complemented by a minimum of 3 years of related industry experience, or an Associate degree in Process Technology, or equivalent Military service combined with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications essential for operational reporting and data entry.
- Valid forklift operator certification or ability to operate forklift safely.
- Physical ability to perform demanding operational tasks, including walking, climbing stairs and ladders up to 100 feet, and lifting weights up to 50 pounds.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate and report within the team and across departments.
- Possession of a current and valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and resolving process and mechanical problems independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment that utilizes similar technology to the current plant unit is highly desirable.
