Introduction
Currently, Chevron Phillips Chemical LP is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Pipefitter at our Sweeny, TX facility. The maintenance pipefitter craft works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. They will troubleshoot issues, repair failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensure maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the Sweeny Plant.
Responsibilities
- Plans the details and working procedures by determining replacement needs or new materials are required, and develops a logical approach to correct the problem
- Participates in a continuous improvement environment in all areas of the process team operations
- Completes planned preventative maintenance work, statutory inspections, breakdown/reactive work within a hazardous area environment
- Carries out scheduled inspection, testing, and maintenance of all piping systems on site
- Installs and tests new piping systems and pipe components
- Fabricates parts if not commercially available, using machines and hand tools common to the trade
- Advises and cautions operators, tradesmen and supervisors about potential problems, recurring failures, and inherent dangers involved
- Works with plant engineering and project engineers on evaluating, assisting, checking, and installation of various equipment
- Analyzes problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair
- Adheres to all applicable company and client policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/ GED with a minimum of 5 years of Pipefitter experience in the refining or chemical process industry
- Strong commitment to safety
- Proficient use of craft tools and knowledge of bolt torque procedures
- Ability to read and follow isometric piping drawings and mechanical flowsheets
- Ability to safely operate carry deck cranes, forklifts, and manlifts
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, and perform a wide range of physical activities
- Ability to use a variety of personal safety equipment including but not limited to fresh air and slicker suits
- Must be able to work at high elevations and/or in confined spaces
- Overtime may be required at various times
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous craft supervisory experience
- Proficiency with SAP
- General understanding of work permits, confined space permits and JSA’s
