Introduction
As the company’s storytellers, the Public Affairs team focuses on building the company’s brand and reputation, communicating company information and being active members of the communities where we live and work. Our team drives media relations, crisis communications, community involvement, marketing communications, internal communications and digital communications to disseminate news and information that effectively engages the company’s global stakeholders.
The Public Affairs team has an opening for an experienced Community Affairs Advisor. This role will report to the Internal Communications and Community Affairs Lead and play a key part in shaping our community engagement strategy. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with strong writing skills, attention to detail and a flexible mindset.
This opening is a full-time position on the Public Affairs team, located at the company’s headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas. Eligible for 9/80 and Hybrid Work Schedule.
Responsibilities
- The Community Affairs Advisor is responsible for effectively positioning the company as a leader in the community, working closely with local, regional and national non-profits.
- Sets the direction for employee volunteerism, community investments and civic memberships, and builds strategic relationships with organizations that align with the company’s corporate giving strategy to drive community, employee and business impact.
Community Affairs Strategy
- Lead execution of the company’s philanthropic strategy, managing charitable contributions and sponsorships aligned with corporate values and community priorities
- Develop and implement strategic plans to boost employee participation in charitable giving and volunteer activities globally.
- Measure and report on community investment outcomes, ensuring alignment with company goals and providing insights and improvement recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership
Community Engagement
- Coordinate companywide employee volunteer and giving programs, including planning events, tracking participation and promoting stories of impact to foster a culture of service and community involvement
- Represent the company in community councils, civic/chamber associations and at local events
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with nonprofit organizations in the Greater Houston area and Montgomery County, aligned with our corporate giving strategy
- Manage and enhance the company’s digital platform for employee giving and volunteerism
Communications & Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, including executive leadership
- Draft talking points and communications for leadership participation in community events
- Collaborate with facility community affairs representatives to ensure alignment with corporate strategy
- Serve as the lead writer and editor of community affairs content across social media, company website and intranet
- Create compelling content such as emails, articles, social media posts, presentations, and videos that inform, educate and inspire employees and the communities where we operate
- Lead planning and execution of community and employee engagement events at company headquarters and develop toolkits to support events at global facilities
- Collaborate with other members of the Public Affairs team to integrate community messaging into broader company communications strategies
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high-quality, on-brand communications
- Other public affairs/communications duties as assigned
Budget & Contributions Management
- Oversee the corporate giving budget, ensuring strategic allocation and accurate recordkeeping
- Monitor and report on expenditures and donations
- Administer employee giving and matching gift programs in alignment with company policies and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate community affairs or related field.
- Demonstrated success in managing outreach programs, stakeholder relationships and community initiatives.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, civic groups or corporate philanthropy programs.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and build relationships.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
- Knowledge of digital engagement platforms and data analytics tools such as YourCause.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint
