Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking a Specialist, Transportation Services - Rail Commercial within our dynamic Supply Chain division based in Woodlands. This role plays an integral part in enhancing our supply network operations, specifically focusing on rail and commercial transportation services. You'll be at the forefront of ensuring our products move efficiently and reliably through various transportation modes, contributing to the overall operational excellence of our Commercial business unit.
As an essential member of the Rail Services team, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to manage optimizing route combinations, optimizing cost control, serve as backup for Rate & Route requests and ensuring compliance with rail freight contracts in addition to ongoing requests for analytics/metrics. Individual will support rail strategy creation and research industry trends. This position offers a stimulating environment to apply expertise in logistics and supplier management, while driving continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with our company's strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Supports the development and maintenance of supply chain policies, processes, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent execution and compliance.
- Contributes to defining key metrics and tools to measure supplier performance.
- Supports strategic supplier partnerships and alliances to strengthen supply continuity & supply resilience.
- Ensures optimization of costs, quality, delivery and flexibility across supply networks.
- Identifies risks within the supply chain and implements mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.
- Supports supplier onboarding, qualification, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Enhance supplier relationship management by conducting regular reviews, site visits, and action plans to improve performance.
- Enables supply continuity of products and services aligned to business needs.
- Drives cost‑reduction initiatives through data analysis, supplier negotiations, and process optimization.
- Conducts periodic business reviews to continually improve vendor performance.
- Facilitates root‑cause analysis and corrective action processes for supply or logistics disruptions.
- Manages different modes of transportation, including rail, truck, and export logistics, to ensure efficient and reliable product movement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Supply Chain Operations, Procurement, Logistics, Planning, or related functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Petrochemical Experience
- Prior exposure to enterprise‑level supply networks and supplier performance frameworks.
- Knowledge of railroads and railroad networks.
- Experience supporting digital transformation or implementing supply chain technology solutions.
- Experience supporting Request for Proposals (RFP).
- Experience with SAP and rail routing protocol creation.
- Experience with data analytics and visualization tools.
