Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) with Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC, through a wholly owned affiliate Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company (ACP), has two 50/50 joint venture projects in the Eastern Province Industrial City of Al-Jubail: Saudi Chevron Phillips Company (SCP) and Jubail Chevron Phillips Company (JCP). A third joint venture, Saudi Polymers Company (SPCo), is jointly owned by ACP and National Petrochemical Company (Petrochem). 

Job Purpose:

To provide sound commercial legal services/support & advice to S-Chem and related entities and to ensure compliance with the legal framework associated with business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides legal advice on certain agreements or contracts relating to the routine operations, may further assist in negotiation process & communication to protect business and its interests against any legal exposure, minimizes/balances the liability and avoid conflicts followed by laws and regulations.
  • Conducts and supports in negotiations and communication with representatives of counterparties and others in the ordinary course of the Legal Department’ representation of S-Chem.
  • Assists the General Counsel with the legal and ethical compliance requirements applicable to S-Chem and its staff.
  • May support through providing the advice and observations in design and development of operating policies and other organizational programs to ensure mitigation of potential risk associated with obligation of local and internal laws.
  • Prepare first draft contracts, agreements, and other documents pertaining to matters within the purview of the Legal Department. 
  • Assists in compliance related investigations and supports in managing the legal disputes through negotiations or court litigations.
  • Prepares/evaluates/revises legal/commercial/business documents, contracts, agreements and other official correspondences and communication in context to sound legal standings.
  • Supports the legal matters and their resolution through providing the external market research in legal context or established principles, this may cover researching processes or working mechanism of suppliers, vendors, and related to other business processes such as regulatory compliance; Zakat/Vat, Tax, and insurance etc.
  • Evaluates litigation cases and discuss with the related party to ascertain facts and circumstances of the situation and develops a plan of action to complete the successful resolution of the case.
  • Assists liaising with external counsel and other suppliers who have been engaged to support the Legal Department.
  • Keeps control and maintains legal/business and commercial documentations under the standard operating procedures and strict confidentiality. 
  • Performs any other relevant task as directed by General Counsel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of post-qualification experience (A total of 4-5 years of experience including years of training)
  • Licensed and qualified to act as a lawyer/attorney-at-law in Saudi Arabia or an equivalent legal qualification in another jurisdiction.
  • Exposure to legal practice in English, including the analysis, drafting, review and negotiations of international commercial agreements/cross-broader transactions.
