We are currently seeking a talented individual to be our Electrical & Instrument Equipment Reliability Lead at our facility in Baytown, TX.  This position is responsible for Cedar Bayou plant’s Electrical and Instrument Equipment Reliability to

improve safety and reliability and assure compliance with generally accepted industry standards, laws and regulations related to Electrical and Instrument equipment as well as mechanical integrity related to inspection, testing and maintenance (NFPA 70E / API / OSHA PSM). Develop strategies to improve equipment reliability and reduce incidents. Provide leadership for effective root cause analysis. Manage a staff of Electrical Engineer and CPC and contract IEC Specialists.

 

General responsibilities:

  • Responsible for industry standard Mechanical Integrity compliance inspection program for instrument and electrical equipment.
  • Work with Plant management and Plant staff to define, communicate, prioritize and execute the appropriate programs, initiatives, projects and tasks consistent with and supporting the goals of the Cedar Bayou plant.
  • Promote and participate in corporate sponsored initiatives.
  • Perform work tasks as a role model for safe behavior and demonstrates practical knowledge of the Tenets of Operations

 

Leadership and Development responsibilities:

  • Apply appropriate reliability tools to drive improvements, optimize costs, and improve AE (i.e., Worst Actor Program, FMEA, RBI, RBM, RCM, Reliability Roadmap, etc.).
  • Responsible for development of Critical Equipment list and Critical Spares Inventory recommendations. This includes monitoring and optimizing the stores system considering site-wide needs.
  • Lead the Worst Actor Program and create action plans for improving reliability in coordination with IEC Engineering Organization.
  • Research and communicate new technologies and maintenance practices to improve asset availability and optimize costs.
  • Participates in incident investigations to discover root cause of problems and implements corrective actions to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to IEC Engineering Organization as required.

 

Authorization and Job Activities:

  • Responsible for efforts to maintain equipment availability at highest operating level feasible.
  • Responsible for in-depth engineering reviews of instrument and electrical equipment data and recommendation of corrective actions to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering Department.
  • Responsible for reliability efforts that involve evaluation of history, field observations, design engineering changes, operating procedure changes, preventive maintenance procedure changes, and expected life versus actual life.
  • Responsible for effectiveness of analytical and instrumentation techniques for detecting and diagnosing problems in equipment.
  • Establish and maintain accurate status of all electrical and instrument equipment, develop and maintain history and performance to reveal bad & worst actors. Responsibility includes communicating plant equipment issues and findings to Operations and Maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Expand and improve the level of expertise with the Equipment Reliability Group as well as assist other departments to increase knowledge and improve skills related to reliability activities.
  • Participate and advise in developing plans for major shutdowns, construction or alteration projects where mechanical inspections will be critical to the accomplishment of the work.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Instruments, or Controls Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E / API / OSHA PSM codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to take conceptual ideas and translate them into functional programs.
  • Exhibits a thorough understanding of the Operational Excellence System (OE) and role models the integration of safety, health, environmental, reliability, and quality in all activities.
  • Team player, able to work with individuals in other departments to improve repair procedures, equipment design, and overall reliability.
  • Ability to coach / mentor Engineers and Specialists and influence others who are not direct reports

 

Experience:

  • Five or more years of experience in a petrochemical, chemical processing or refinery environment with progressive experience in the area of reliability and repair/maintenance
  • Prior experience in a leadership/supervisory role is preferred
