The position is for a qualified maintenance mechanic / millwright. The primary objective is to perform associated work in a safe manner, produce a quality end result and to look for cost-effective solutions for complex problems.  The millwright position works closely with other maintenance groups, operations, ERG and third party contractors. The millwright works in a job lead position at times with other embedded contractors. The millwright has the responsibility to champion and monitor safe work practices. The completed work must meet plant standards strive to incorporate Chevron Phillips best practices when possible and comply with API, ASME and other applicable standards.


The Millwright duties include troubleshooting and repair of rotating and reciprocating equipment with the responsibility to maintain the mechanical integrity of equipment in a petrochemical environment. The successful candidate must be proficient in rim and face and reverse indicator alignment techniques.  Ability to read equipment prints, access information from OEM manuals, and proficiency with measurement tools (rules, micrometers, dial calipers, etc.).  The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of mechanical seals, flush plans and seal failure analysis and demonstrated ability to perform rotating equipment repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting.

This position will require overtime and occasional nights or weekend work to support planned and unplanned equipment turnarounds as well as rotating weekend pager duty. Rotating shiftwork may be required in the future.

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends at least 80% of the work day in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of physical labor. Walking, climbing, lifting and pushing.


  Specific job duties include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Advocate for safe work and good housekeeping practices.
  • Compliance with plant, API and ASME standards.
  • Troubleshoot & repair rotating and reciprocating equipment.
  • Confirm time and complete all work orders in SAP.
  • Trouble-shoot equipment failures. Prior failure mode analysis training is a plus.
  • Work with planners to update equipment BOM stores stock and non-stores stock items.  
  • Review and update maintenance equipment procedures.
  • Work with PM coordinator and the training coordinator to create new equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in JSA and PSSR walk-downs.
  • Prepare seal failure check sheet and associated documentation required to send seals out for repair. Prior gas seal experience is a plus.
  • Work with ERG to improve reliability of equipment.
  • Works closely with planning to be sure parts are available for jobs in order to keep workflow productive.


Minimum Requirements

HS diploma or GED is required. The successful candidate will have manufacturing plant experience which will include: troubleshooting and repair of pumps, turbines, compressors, gear boxes and blowers.  Proficiency in rim and face, reverse indicator alignment and laser alignment techniques.  Ability to read equipment prints, secure information from OEM manuals, and proficiency with measurement tools (rules, micrometers, dial calipers, etc.). 


Preferred Skills

AAS Industrial Systems Technician or Certificate of completion: Industrial Systems– Millwright – MW1 or equivalent and five years’ work experience. NCCR certified is a plus.

Preferred candidate will have extensive experience in troubleshooting and repair of pumps, turbo machinery, hyper compressors, gear boxes and blowers. Proficiency with SAP and Meridium.  Good communication skills both written and verbal. Candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate personal initiative.
