Job Description/Requirements:

The Rotating Equipment Analyst is responsible for the reliability oversight of all rotating equipment in their responsible area at the Cedar Bayou Plant. The objectives of the Rotating Equipment Analyst's efforts include providing recommendations to increase machine reliability, improve machine efficiency and reduce maintenance cost. The Analyst also provides input into design upgrades, and provides equipment selection guidance for new projects. The Rotating Equipment Analyst must foster a teamwork approach to rotating equipment reliability by working closely with Operations, Technical and Maintenance personnel along with corporate and factory experts. The Rotating Equipment Analyst will also be required to work closely with the plant Vibration Analyst assisting in troubleshooting vibration issues. When equipment is taken down for a repair or overhaul, the two analysts will need to work together to identify/validate the source of the vibration indication.


The successful candidate must have good analytical and troubleshooting skills and be able to communicate with all levels of the plant population. The successful candidate should also be experienced in the disassembly and repair of a variety of types of rotating equipment.


Key job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Record Keeping - Document maintenance history, cause of failure, repair cost, machine performance, and vibration history records to identify machines requiring excessive maintenance, exhibiting design faults, and those machines that are poor performers.

• Machinery Reliability - Develop improvement recommendations to address rotating equipment that is requiring excessive maintenance or is otherwise a poor performer

• Design Review - Work with engineering to review designs provide equipment specifications for new projects.

• Machinery Surveillance - Issue recommendations to perform routine maintenance or a major overhaul or as indicated by vibration analysis and/or machine performance.

• Machinery Protection - Work with the Vibration Analysts on the installation and maintenance of vibration and axial position systems to prevent catastrophic failures.

• Scheduled Plant Shutdown - Analyze mechanical equipment prior to scheduled plant shutdowns and issue recommendations to repair or overhaul only those pieces of equipment which are poor performers or will not operate to next scheduled shutdown. Become personally involved in all repairs during shutdowns to ensure a smooth trouble-free startup. Assume responsibility for startup of all major rotating equipment after each plant shutdown.

• Quality Control - Develop and issue detailed maintenance checklists for machine overhaul. Become personally involved in overhauls and repairs to ensure peak performance and eliminate repetitive maintenance.

• Work closely with the vendors providing parts and/or support components for the plant's rotating equipment such as pump seals. The objective is to assure the proper application of components and the failure analysis of those components returned to the vendor for repair.

• Keep informed on the latest technological developments associated with plant mechanical equipment. Champion the application of new technology as appropriate.

• Develop, issue, and maintain inspection and maintenance procedures as requested.

• Issue alignment requirements, review alignment documentation and serve as technical advisor on the alignment of mechanical equipment.

• Serve as (or arrange for) a company representative to provide inspection services at contractor shops to ensure quality workmanship on the repair or overhaul of plant equipment, the testing and assembly of new equipment.

• Provide training to Maintenance, Operators and Technical personnel as requested.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 7+ years of experience in rotating equipment repair
  • Experience in rotating equipment root cause failure analysis
  • Vibration analysis experience is a plus
  • Experience with API 670 vibration protection systems is a plus
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills are required
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks at the same time
  • Computer skills (MS Office required, Meridium and SAP preferred)
