Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP is seeking qualified and highly-motivated candidates to serve as Business Services Manager in its Legal & Public Affairs department (“L&PA”) located at its headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas.  Chevron Phillips Chemical's L&PA department numbers over 50 professionals and direct and indirect reporting relationships covering global operations.  


This is a newly created, high-profile position within the department and will serve as a member of the L&PA leadership team (“L&PA LT”) comprised of the Senior Vice President L&PA, Assistant General Counsels and Public Affairs Manager.  The Business Services Manager will oversee administrative functions of the department, including:


  • Ensure department compliance with enterprise procurement, internal controls and delegation guidelines and processes;
  • Develop, document, implement and maintain management financial reporting systems and processes, including regular variance reporting systems and reports for L&PA LT;
  • Oversee department compliance with annual enterprise strategic planning, budgeting and reporting processes and monitor ongoing status and data integrity;
  • Champion, coordinate, and serve as systems administrator for department-level recordkeeping, legal matter management, and knowledge management tools and platforms;
  • Monitor, document, and liaise between the L&PA LT and other personnel regarding administrative roles and responsibilities across the department, including proactively spotting administrative issues or friction points and developing and implementing changes to constructively address;
  • Serve as liaison role between L&PA and the Finance and Information Technology departments on core initiatives and platforms;
  • Serve as liaison to outside vendors (including law firms) on administrative matters and processes, including engagement, onboarding, and billing processes;
  • Lead department-level administrative initiatives, including training and ensuring collaboration amongst L&PA personnel areas such as administrative, financial, and computer-based platforms;
  • Facilitate and participate in L&PA Leadership Team meetings, including preparation of agendas and decision support materials;     
  • Maintain L&PA business continuity plans and strategies; and
  • Facilitate and prepare content for department-level events.


The incumbent must maintain fluency in legal practice management best practices and standards and public affairs areas in order to ensure effective interface and compliance with corporate systems, policies, and internal controls.  Responsibilities will include department accounting, management financial reporting, budgeting, policy development, enterprise process / system design, and program compliance. 



Professional Qualifications:


  • Four (4) year undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a finance, accounting, management or legal field of study;
  • At least ten (10) years of experience working in a corporate, consulting, or law firm environment, including at least five (5) years of directly applicable experience;
  • Prior experience designing, implementing and training in work process flows and software platforms;  
  • Recognized ability to effectively manage multiple, simultaneous projects, clients, and responsibilities in a highly visible role with considerable autonomy;
  • Prior success in developing, communicating, collaborating, leading change, and effectively pursuing enterprise-level policies, programs, applications, and procedures;
  • Capable at navigating financial statements and working within financial accounting and internal control structures;
  • Adept at developing, maintaining and leveraging management financial reporting;
  • Fluent in enterprise reporting platform system (SAP preferred), and Microsoft Office suite;
  • Prior administrative experience with legal practice management and billing systems or similar software platforms a plus.
