Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) has an opening for a Catalyst Research Chemist in the Polyolefins Catalyst & Product Development department located at our research facilities in Bartlesville, OK. We are looking for a talented and motivated Catalyst Research Chemist.  The successful candidate will join a talented group of scientists responsible for the discovery, development, and commercialization of polyethylene catalysts applied to improving polyethylene processes and products. In this role, the successful applicant will be required to carry out the development and evaluation of catalysts and stay abreast of cutting-edge developments in the area.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Discover, develop, and commercialize catalyst technology applied the production of polyethylene polymers.
  • Design and conduct independent, accurate and defendable scientific R&D activities.
  • Ensure that process operations are conducted in a manner consistent with the Operational Excellence programs within Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. including all internal and external safety and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Benchmarking experimental catalysts with current commercial catalyst.
  • Document and communicate research with internal / external reports and/or presentations valuable to CPChem.
  • Plan and conduct experimental programs to expand and generate polymer and catalyst technology aligned with business interests.
  • Organize and develop appropriate testing of catalysts and co-catalysts.
  • Support commercialization efforts by working within and / or leading project teams.
  • Utilize knowledge of industry to assist research efforts in addressing unmet needs.
  • Represents CPChem interests in attending professional society meetings and make contributions in area of expertise.
     

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry field with background in catalyst research and development.
  • Must have clearly demonstrated the ability to develop and lead independent research projects and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with catalytic olefin polymerizations.
  • Demonstrated track record of conducting independent creative research with relevant industry experience.
  • Polymer knowledge.
