Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Specialty Chemicals Team Leader to join our team at the Research and Technology facility in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Specialty Chemicals Team of ~9 researchers and technicians and will have responsibility for effectively managing both expense and capital budgets to support this group. 


The successful candidate will be part of the Specialties Technology team and must communicate effectively in oral presentations and written documents at all levels of the company. Communication skills will also involve interactions with external customer and industry contacts. The individual must also be able to work effectively with researchers, technicians, business colleagues, plant personnel, and customers.



  • Managing and developing a staff of research and technology professionals
  • Ensuring the workgroup conducts all experiments and performs all operations safely and in accordance with Operational Excellence.
  • Serving on the Bartlesville Management Safety Committee.
  • Establishing, designing, and executing specialty chemicals projects.
  • Collaborates with other researchers, technicians, business colleagues, plant team members, external customers, and industry contacts.
  • Fostering cross-functional relationships with other workgroups.
  • Managing resources and communication to support manufacturing and business troubleshooting, problem solving, and technology development.
  • Supports pilot plant programs and operations.
  • Developing and enhancing Specialty Chemicals research capabilities and infrastructure.


Required Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to personal safety, process safety, and operational discipline.
  • A Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related technical field with 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Must have excellent leadership skills and ability to energize an effective workgroup.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with a range of workgroups within the organization, and must communicate effectively with technicians, scientists, engineers, peers, manufacturing, R&T management and business management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Agile project execution and project portfolio management experience.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and capable of adapting to priority changes.
  • Experience with concept to commercialization product development experience
  • Process development experience
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals.
  • Self-driven with high degree of initiative and time management skills.
