Chevron Phillips is currently seeking a Low-Density Polyehtylene (1792) Unit Superintendent to join the Operations organization at the Cedar Bayou Plant located in Baytown, TX.  The Unit Superintendent is responsible for directing operational activities for a Low-Density Polyethylene Unit producing 660MM pounds per year.  The successful candidate will plan, prioritize, coordinate and align the unit's activities to ensure that EHS and operating targets are met.


Key Job Responsibilities :

  • Uses Tenets of Operation and the Operating Hierarchy as core tools to drive decision making and behavior 
  • Drives the focus on Operational Discipline and strives to ensure all operational tasks are performed correctly every time
  • Serves as the primary plant contact for all Low-Density Polyethylene Business Unit issues, long-range planning, and budget development
  • Coordinates preparation, evaluation and approval of annual operating budgets and manages approximately $90MM in annual operating expenses and $10MM in annual capital project expenses
  • Directs the coordination of unit outages and turnarounds which average $10MM
  • Assesses long-range manpower needs and incorporates resource needs in annual budget planning cycles
  • Proactively addresses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing the operating unit and balances long-term strategies with day-to-day activities
  • Serves on the Guidance Review Teams (GRTs) for large growth projects in the Polyethylene organization
  • Delivers products that meet or exceed customer expectations and are compliant with quality standards
  • Evaluates long-range environmental requirement changes and ensures projects and funding are planned to support compliance
  • Ensures compliance with environmental requirements and proactively seeks out and remedies environmental improvement opportunities
  • Administers annual performance management to the direct-report exempt employees and guides Shift Supervisors in their efforts to administer annual performance feedback to the Operators
  • Fairly and consistently administers Plant and Company policies
  • Models and reinforces ICARE principles
  • Responsible for group compliance with site Operations and Maintenance Work Process (OMWP) requirements to support prioritizing and scheduling of planned maintenance work
  • Partners with the Training Department to ensure effective and timely operator training and SOP development 
  • Ensures that unit operating procedures stay current and are used when required
  • Ensures compliant and consistent application of the Formal Operator Training Program in all operation areas
  • This position reports to the Operations Manager


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, plus 8 years of experience in a petrochemical manufacturing facility. Or in lieu of bachelor's degree, High School diploma/GED, plus 13 years of experience in a petrochemical manufacturing facility.
  • General knowledge of industry and company design codes/specifications 
  • Self-starter with above-average planning and organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Low-Density Polyethylene process as well as prior experience in operations
  • Must have strong skills in conflict resolution, change management, and written/verbal communication
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
