Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Control Systems Supervisor to join the Technical Team supporting the Polyethylene and Ethylene areas for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The Control Systems Supervisor position is responsible for supervising and mentoring a group of process control engineers and professionals. The process control group works closely with the daily operations of olefins, polyethylene, and utilities units and provides resources for process control systems related maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization and project implementation so the producing assets can run safely, efficiently, and reliably. Initially, this position will be focused on Operational Readiness by building the team, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned, and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely startup of the facility.
This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to achieve site personnel safety, process safety, environmental, and reliability goals
- Drive improvement, development and implementation of process control strategies that improve facility safety, reliability, profitability and efficiency
- Ensure the development, support, maintenance, programming, and implementation of distributive control systems, advanced process control applications, process optimization, process information management systems, process controls asset management, yields and accounting system, environmental reporting software, and alarm management database systems
- Maintain facility control applications and the regulatory control strategies and develop new control applications by utilizing emerging cutting-edge technologies, including support in DCS platforms, APC applications and process information systems, and database infrastructures such as Oracle, MS SQL, and proprietary vendor databases
- Drive Process Control involvement in scope development, PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), HAZOPS (Hazards and Operability Study), LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis) studies, PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Reviews), and SAT/FAT (Site and Facility Acceptance Testing)
- Ensure that the Alarm Documentation and Rationalization (D&R) / Alarm Objective Analysis (AOA) activities are performed and implemented in the DCS
Responsibilities (continued)
- Drive consistent application and adherence to DCS/PLC/BMS/APC life cycle strategy for the site
- Ensure support for capital and expense projects for the implementation of DCS, APC strategies, process optimization, alarm management, and process information management systems
- Ensure implementation and management of Advanced Process Control applications and directing the activities of APC vendor support personnel
- Coordinate with ICS group day-to-day support and maintenance of process control hardware such as workstations, servers, and switches
- Drive engagement with plant improvement teams, special projects, and corporate initiatives as needed
- Drive support of commissioning and startup of green field site and successful transition to run and maintain mode
- Ensures compliance with of Management of Change (MOC) and Alarm & Interlock Bypass procedures
- Assist with development of annual budget for process area
- Drive the technical and professional development of the Process Control team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with at least 5 years of experience in industry OR High school diploma with at least 8 years of experience supporting manufacturing facilities/projects
- Minimum of 3 years of Process Automation/Control Systems experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A self-starter with the ability to guide and influence others
- Proficient in reading and understanding design documents, i.e. P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, and schematics
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to engineers and non-engineers
- Excellent organization and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience
- Experience in petrochemical manufacturing/refining industry
- Polyethylene/Ethylene experience
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV Control System
- Experience with Virtualization
- Experience with Advanced Process Control (APC)
- Experience with Commissioning/Startup
