Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking an Instrument & Electrical Reliability Analyst to join our team in Orange, Texas. The primary responsibility of I&E Reliability Analyst is to provide technical support to the Orange Facility to identify and eliminate equipment failures, improve the quality of new and existing installations, maintain and improve the site Instrumented Protective Systems (IPS) / Safety Instrumented System (SIS) programs, and ensure work is done in accordance with required standards, best practices and applicable regulations and industry codes. 


  • Responsible for the reliability of industrial instrumentation field devices (valves, transmitters, sensing elements, flowmeters, etc.).
  • Responsible for improving the overall reliability for the equipment related to instrumented systems.
  • Utilizes available tools to identify, quantify, and analyze reliability threats, and measure reliability improvements (Meridium, SAP).
  • Identifies and manages a list of threats/bad actors, facilitates root cause failure analysis, and provides recommendations for improvement based on economic justification.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Identifies critical spare parts/equipment needs and ensures equipment is set up in stores.
  • Define requirements, develop, and improve the ITPM program for instrumentation.
  • Identify equipment replacements, equipment improvements, and reliability program initiatives to contribute to annual budget cycle.
  • Perform equipment condition assessments to develop shutdown or turnaround scope and develop applicable test repair procedures for TA group.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Resolve and plan for obsolescence issues concerning the facilities instrumentation.
  • Maintain an effective rapport with Maintenance, Operations and Project Engineering groups.
  • Support continuous improvement of the facility's Mechanical Integrity program including ownership of the site’s Instrumented Protective Systems/Safety Instrumented Systems Programs.
  • Assist as needed with electrical system reliability improvements and problem solving.
  • Participate in expense and capital projects to ensure compliance with project specifications, relevant codes, supplier requirements, and that work is done safely and correctly.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED.
  • At least 10 years or experience in Instrumentation at a chemical/manufacturing facility.
  • Practical knowledge in maintaining various types of industrial instrumentation including control valves and transmitters (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.).
  • Understanding of the engineering documents associated with controls such as: P&ID's, loop sheets, panel layouts, control narratives, logic diagrams, etc.
  • Practical knowledge in maintaining Low & Medium Voltage Motor Control Centers and Switchgear.
  • Practical knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems and SIS lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical communication (oral & written) and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must possess excellent leadership skills and demonstrate the ability to interact well with others with a commitment to safety.
  • Requires the ability to multi-task, organize their work, and meet the facilities work schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with International Society of Automation (ISA).
  • Basic understanding of ISA-84 & IEC-61511 standards for Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Ability to interpret the National Electric Code (NFPA 70).
  • Previous Electrical Hazard training based on the NFPA 70E (ESWP) standard
