Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Materials Management Team Lead to join our Global Procurement team in Orange, Texas.  The Materials Management Team Lead is responsible for the daily oversight of material handlers and meeting customer demand, as well as, the management of warehouse operations in accordance with overall company policy. In particular, the role focuses on the effectiveness and accuracy of the flow of inventory into and out of the warehouse. 


The Materials Management Team Lead works closely with the manufacturing, maintenance, warehouse personnel and suppliers, understands and solves a variety of inventory problems and issues.  The individual should exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills with an achiever mentality, the desire to be a leader, the ability to learn quickly, and the willingness to challenge existing processes. 


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, education and feedback to ensure that receiving and restocking are done accurately, efficiently, safely, on-time using the correct procedures
  • Promotes safety performance and ensure safety procedures are adhered to
  • Directs and oversees Contract Material Handlers to ensure efficiency
  • Manages and controls stock levels and making key decisions about stock control
  • Assists with special projects as assigned
  • Leads and coordinates adding new item process for maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), evaluates new material request and provide recommendations to Purchasing Management
  • Assists purchasing and end user with material specification and updates.  Approves vendor part number or material description changes in SAP for existing inventory
  • Provides trouble shooting and problem resolution support for warehouse processes
  • Identifies excess and obsolete inventory for the Material Review Board (MRB) review and makes appropriate recommendations for removal.  Coordinates sale of obsolete items with Surplus Vendor
  • Manages Zone Stores as well as Procard monthly reconciliation/expense report
  • Develops and reports performance metrics to Purchasing Management
  • Oversees warehouses roles in the plant repairable process, including coordination with Repair Coordinator, Planned Orders, and Repairs Buyer to ensure the process flows efficiently and effectively
  • Manages Material Requirements Planning (MRP) non-released warehouse stock materials
  • Oversees positive materials identification (PMI) to ensure process is performed to requirements
  • Performs Hazmat activities associated with preparation of all paperwork for transport carriers leaving our facility.  This includes bills of lading, labels/placards, etc
  • Conducts SOX testing for cycle counting and the MRB process
  • Coordinates with delivery services
  • Assists Turnaround Group for requirements of materials for planned turnarounds
  • Analyzes and interprets material / labor trends to facilitate planning
  • Provides warehouse support for other CPChem sites as needed
  • Ensures standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met
  • Resolves health, safety, and security issues
  • Responds to customer complaints and comments
  • Provides updates to Procurement Management and material handlers on new initiatives and other pertinent issues
  • Tours the warehouse floor regularly, talking to colleagues and customers, and identifying or resolving urgent issues
  • Acts as point of contact for customer service escalations and work with management to ensure all are addressed in a timely manner
  • Provides backup coverage for Orange Procurement Site Manager as required


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum education of High School diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 8 years of related manufacturing or commercial experience
  • Experience with SAP Materials Management (MM) module
  • Warehouse/Inventory Material Management experience
  • Proficient with MS Office applications
  • Ability to accommodate rotational after-hours coverage
  • Ability to obtain or currently holds 49 CFR 172 DOT certification for hazmat shipping, forklift driving certification and Radiation Worker Safety Certification for Portable XRF Analyzer for PMI testing


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
  • Previous experience in setting up a MM program from scratch
  • Supervisory experience
  • General knowledge of contracting and a general understanding of compliance and risk from a business perspective
  • Experience with SharePoint, TRACK and/or Source to Pay
