Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Process Engineer to join our team at the existing Orange location. The successful candidate will report to the Lead Process Engineer. This position provides engineering and daily technical support for plant activities. #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Drives project team through technology selection, design basis, process design, and execution
  • Manages the review of contractor design of PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, heat and material balances, process calculations, and equipment datasheets
  • Review and give feedback on designs, equipment selections, and construction plans
  • Participates in PHA, project HAZOPs, alarm objective analysis, and project MOC HSE evaluations 
  • Manages process control, interlock, shutdown logic, DCS graphical display, and alarm display design
  • Review and approves operations procedures and training
  • Participates in the MOC process, best practice teams, and benchmarking studies that improve the safety and profitability of the units.
  • Provides technical inputs and evaluating recommendations for operational feasibility and safety compliance
  • Arranges process-related consulting services
  • Coordinates economic studies
  • Supports the construction team on plant design and philosophy
  • Follows all process equipment installation
  • Participates in PSSR and final acceptance of constructed facilities
  • Ensures a safe start-up by following tenets, procedures, and using technical resources
  • Ensures the plant is operating as designed and optimized
  • Executes small expense projects/capital projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in chemical manufacturing or refining
  • Understanding of basic process equipment design and operation
  • Knowledge of industry and company design codes and process engineering practices
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Positive attitude and ability to maintain team harmony
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with polymers, polyethylene, or utilities manufacturing
  • Experience with Chevron Engineering Standards (Gray Manuals)
  • Experience with instrument loop and controls wiring diagrams, control/protection relaying, and variable speed drives
