Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Polyethylene Shift Team Leader to join our team at our chemical plant in Pasadena, Texas.  This position is responsible for managing day-to-day operations in the plant associated with safety, environmental, quality, production, and costs.  The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership skills to plan, organize, and direct work in an efficient manner.  Duties include promoting a safe work environment through the Tenets of Operation & Life-Saving Rules, ensuring environmental compliance, operating reliably, and ensuring production of the highest quality product.  The Shift Team Leader will work with unit operators, engineering, leadership team, and all other departments to ensure all safety, environmental, production, and cost goals are met.  

Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance – Responsible for the safety of the unit personnel per Tenets of Operation and Life-Saving Rules.  Accountable for environmental compliance.  Ensures that unit personnel are following all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and practices.   Addresses all safety and environmental issues promptly.

 

Personnel – Works with Operations Specialist and Trainers to ensure operators are developed into an effective and productive team.   Provides coaching to unit personnel through continuous evaluation of shift performance, encouragement of positive working relationships among the shift members, and consistent administration of plant and company policies.   Ensures operators are kept up to date on training requirements.   Leads Tailgate and Safety meetings. Will be responsible for a crew of approximately 8 operators on a rotating shift schedule. Be able to train and certify in assigned areas for contingency planning.

 

Maintenance – Assists in the planning and coordination of maintenance activities. Helps develop maintenance priorities. Assists operators to ensure proper turnover of equipment to maintenance.  Helps ensure that equipment is received from maintenance and returned to service in a safe, effective manner.

 

Projects – Assists as needed with coordinating maintenance work; point of contact for designated projects and special assignments; and periodically audits contractors for compliance with Plant policies and procedures.

 

Communication – Maintains open and effective communications on and across all shifts within department, unit leadership, other operating units, business groups, and other functional support personnel.

 

Quality – Ensures that the highest quality product is produced.   

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of petrochemical manufacturing experience or High School Diploma/GED with 5 years of process operator experience
  • Demonstrated strong safety leadership, planning, troubleshooting, & organizational skills
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Polyethylene experience
