Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Machinist/Valve Technician to join our team at our Sweeny/Old Ocean facilities. This position is in the Maintenance department and will be responsible for the daily maintenance and repairs on mechanical process equipment such as pumps, turbines, fin fans, cooling tower fans, gearboxes, injection pumps, valves and valve actuators.  The Machinist will be responsible for inspecting and repairing rotating equipment to OEM specifications and performing turnaround mechanical maintenance activities and projects. 


⦁    Follows safe work practices, basic department procedures and contributes to a safe work culture
⦁    Provides maintenance on mechanical process equipment
⦁    Repairs mechanical process equipment
⦁    Inspects and repairs rotating equipment, process valves and valve actuators.
⦁    Performs turnaround mechanical maintenance activities and projects
⦁    Provides error-free maintenance services to other departments, customers, and peers

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with the repair of a wide range of valves and valve actuators,
  • Ability to work overtime hours, rotating schedule and/ give call-out rotation support 
  • Proficient at blueprint reading, planning, and organizing job functions
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and product manuals to repair equipment
  • Proficient use of precision machinist tools and able to operate a forklift, JLG, or other motorized equipment
  • Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision  
  • Must understand safety issues in a hazardous environment 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with repair of process valves and valve actuators
  • Valve repair/mechanical experience in the refining or chemical process industry
  • Experience with the repair of Gate, Globe, Plug and Check Valves (repacking, bushing and bonnet repair, gate, and seat repairs)
  • Experience with the repair of Valves Actuators to include pneumatic piston and electric motor    
  • Experience with the repair of specialty valves including WKM, Orbit, Powell, Edwards, and others
  • Proficient use of precision machinist tools
  • Ability to operate a drott, carry deck and crane
  • Experience with the repair of pumps, steam turbines, injection pumps, and gearboxes
