Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking a Corporate Accounting Manager in the Finance organization at its Headquarters Lakeside office location in The Woodlands, TX.


The Corporate Accounting Manager manages and directs accounting related activities for corporate activity, G&A staff departments, research and technology activity, and leads the Accounts Payable department.  This role requires a solid accounting foundation, encompassing both the necessary education and relevant experience. This position directly supervises three exempt employees and has leadership over a team of 30 exempt and non-exempt employees and contractors. 


This position is eligible for the current hybrid work model (split of remote and office-based days).


  • Manages the benefit accounting and reporting for compensation and variable pay plans including deferred compensation, executive compensation plans, retirement medical plans, and pension plans for the company’s domestic operations. 
  • Management and oversight for the benefit tax filings with the U.S. Department of Labor for numerous company’s benefit plans filed by external accounting firm.
  • Responsible for management and oversight of administerial payments for defined contribution, defined benefit, and employee medical benefit plans.
  • Accounts for costs associated with expatriate employees, including the calculation of payroll burden and overhead rates used in joint venture billings and monthly billings for international services provided to foreign subsidiaries.
  • Leading the corporate accounting team that is responsible for providing accounting and annual long-range budgeting for various corporate staff groups including Legal, Finance, Information Technology, HR, EHS&S, Corporate Planning & Development, Executive and Business Transformation.
  • Manages accounting, budgeting and reporting of licensing revenue from R&T group.
  • Accounts for IT projects including on premise and software subscriptions.
  • Develops and maintains SAP assessments to allocate associated costs to the receivers of the services provided by the Corporate Staffs
  • Responsible for development of the annual Corporate Non-Allocated cost budget and providing monthly accounting, forecasts, and variance analysis to budget for Corporate Non-Allocated costs
  • Provides administration accounting for company debt, including accounting for bonds and commercial paper, and capitalized interest.
  • Administration of employee emergency and disaster relief loans and accounting for related receivable.
  • Oversight of the Accounts Payable department responsible for processing vendor payments for domestic operations, freight payable invoices, wire and manual check payments, corporate card programs for travel and expense and operation procurement cards, and for vendor master data.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or in lieu of listed disciplines, a Bachelor’s Degree with a CPA
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience managing and directing accounting or finance teams
  • Demonstrates strong leadership competencies especially in the areas of personnel matters, communication, execution and results and servant leadership
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of accounting principles, ability to apply pertinent accounting policies and practices
  • Demonstrates a controls mindset including ability to establish a strong internal controls framework for designated processes which is documented, tested and monitored
  • Ability to understand and analyze issues and transactions with financial implications
  • Capable of independently recognizing, defining, and resolving issues
  • Ability to apply new technologies to improve business processes or solve business problems
  • Strong working knowledge of MS office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or MBA
  • Experience with SAP FI/CO module or other ERP systems
  • Experience with Blackline, Ariba or Planful/Spotlight
  • Experience with project management and change leadership
