Chevron Phillips is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Business Transformation organization at The Woodlands, TX headquarters location. This role requires a background in data engineering, and a current strong knowledge of designing, building, and advising teams on the implementation of an Azure cloud ecosystem: all aspects of the cloud native application capabilities, configuration of optimized landscape to manage legacy and modern deployments. As a subject matter expert of solutions & platforms, you will be responsible for implementing data engineering solutions on various projects. You are expected to have depth of knowledge on specified technological areas, which includes knowledge of applicable processes, methodologies, standards, products and frameworks.  Experience in building DevOps pipelines for cloud data management, and significant experience in data center migrations to Azure, in all forms such as PaaS, SaaS, and Hybrid.

In addition, this individual will have a unique perspective from which to contribute to key business decisions and company-wide cloud strategies and initiatives. This individual must develop a comprehensive strategy and drive results by:

  • Establishing cloud solutions that deliver value by creating new organizational capabilities
  • Play a key role in the development of an integrated enterprise Information Governance (IG) strategy for CPChem, including but not limited to (i) policies around retention of email or data, (ii) permitted data or communication platforms, and (iii) enterprise document and data management systems
  • Measure, analyze, track and report business, process and quality metrics to achieve targets while examining trends and identifying areas for improvement.


This position is eligible for the current hybrid work model (split of remote and office-based days).


  • Organizing, planning and developing solutions to sophisticated data management problem statements by working closely with a team of frontend and backend engineers, product managers, and data analysts.
  • Driving the technical design and implementing large-scale data platforms, utilizing modern and open-source technologies, in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Implements processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it.
  • Collaborating across teams to settle appropriate data sources, develop data extraction and business rule solutions.
  • Sharing and incorporating best practices from the industry using new and upcoming tools and technologies in data management & analytics.
  • Defining and documenting architecture, capturing and documenting non - functional   (architectural) requirements in engineering wiki, preparing estimates and defining technical solutions for data driven projects
  • Providing technical leadership to the project team to perform design to deployment related activities, provide guidance, perform reviews, prevent and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborating with the architecture and development teams to ensure alignment to efficient design practices, and fix issues in dev, test and production environments from infrastructure is highly available and performing as expected.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum education of a High School Diploma/GED
  • Must have at least 5 years of data engineering experience
  • Experience working with big data pipelines, large data sets, and cloud computing resources
  • Python programming experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience managing data in the cloud
  • Contributed to Open Source Data Warehousing projects
  • Certifications in any Data Warehousing/Analytical solutioning.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the pros and cons of various technologies and platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Information Systems and their applications to data management processes.
  • Experience performing detailed analysis of business problems and technical environments and designing the solution.
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management & Governance tools.
  • Experience with stream-processing systems.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages.
  • Experience building data solutions for Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Knowledge of Data Analytics and modeling tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced agile development environment.
