Purpose/Introduction
The Finance Department aims to be a trusted partner that adds value by protecting the company’s financial integrity, guiding sound business decisions and offering enriching careers in a collaborative workplace. Finance oversees financial planning and fiscal management for Chevron Phillips Chemical including accounting, financing activities, planning, and tax compliance. The department provides financial information, policy analyses and recommendations that drive sound decision-making.
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking a General Accounting Supervisor position in the Finance organization at its headquarters location in The Woodlands, TX. This role requires a solid accounting foundation, encompassing both the necessary education and relevant experience. The General Accounting Supervisor manages and directs finance related activities for fixed assets, lease accounting, and centralized transactional accounting in an efficient, controlled, and reliable manner.
Responsibilities
- Manages a professional accounting team of 5 highly skilled personnel in the following roles:
- Fixed Asset Accounting
- Leased Asset Accounting
- Centralized Transactional Accounting
- Directs the monthly financial closing process for activities of the group
- Ensures compliance with all CPChem accounting policies and practices
- Oversees the reporting of all financial information related to Property Plant &Equipment (PP&E) and leased assets, including quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures and audit requests
- Manages analysis of periodic financial information and preparation of commentary addressing variances to budget and prior actuals
- Leads and/or participates in various teams to resolve issues, enhance efficiencies, and improve processes
- Assists in the evaluation of Capital Expenditure requests ensuring proper accounting treatment and compliance with capitalization policy
- Co-ordinates compliance and oversees SOX related internal controls
- Co-ordinates and oversees preparation of various annual plant government/industry surveys including MA-10000, RAM, Solomon, and Townsend
- Oversees all plant cost assessments and transactional activities
- Serves as primary back-up to the General Accounting Manager
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance
- 7+ years of relevant work experience minimum
- Strong working knowledge of MS office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Demonstrates a good understanding of accounting principles, ability to apply pertinent accounting policies and practices
- Ability to understand and analyze issues and transactions with financial implications
- Able to work extended hours during closing and special projects
- Capable of recognizing, defining, and resolving issues. Ability to apply new technologies to improve business processes or solve business problems
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior supervisory experience
- Experience with SAP FI/CO module or other ERP systems.
- Experience with PowerBI, SharePoint, Blackline, TRACK and Planful
- Project Management
