Purpose

Chevron Phillips is currently seeking a Manager, Inventory Accounting to join the Finance organization located in The Woodlands, TX. This position is responsible for providing technical inventory accounting knowledge and the management and oversight of the inventory accounting activities for CPChem’s domestic and international raw and finished product inventories. The position manages a team of 3 accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and development of inventory accountants that perform monthly inventory closing entries, inventory reconciliations, and inventory reporting for product inventory that is located domestically and internationally
  • This position provides technical inventory accounting knowledge and is responsible for properly maintaining inventory based on Dollar Value LIFO (“DVL”) inventory accounting methods
  • Oversees inventory analytics and valuations critical for monthly closing entries
  • Determines appropriate accounting treatment based on inventory accounting policies and assists with policy updates and accounting positions
  • Responsible for internal control processes and SOX testing for Inventory Accounting
  • Leads discussion and teams in various inventory accounting analysis project or policy questions
  • Prepares monthly management reports and provides overview explaining inventory valuation changes
  • Provides analysis for inventory impacts based on forecast or budget outlooks or planning scenarios
  • Provides training session to accounting staff on inventory accounting valuation method and calculations
  • Responsible for valuation calculation for inventory pools and prepares additional analysis to organization structure.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • 10 years of overall accounting experience (including inventory and cost accounting experience) 
  • Previous supervisory experience of at least 4 years 
  • SAP experience 
  • Strong accounting knowledge of cost and inventory transaction flows
  • Previous experience in inventory accounting, financial analyst, plant cost analyst, or related experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to articulate complex issues
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead and develop accounting staff
  • Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively cross-functionally
  • Strong business analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with employees at all organizational levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAP experience with FI/CO, MM, SD 
  • Experience in the chemical or oil and gas industry 
  • Knowledge of relevant inventory accounting methods and tax treatment for Dollar Value LIFO inventory pools 
  • Experience working with, and knowledge of, inventory valuation methods for the chemical industry
  • Proficiency in Power BI
