Chevron Phillips is currently seeking a Transportation Export Specialist to join the Transportation Services (TS) group of the Global Supply Chain organization at The Woodlands, TX, headquarters location.  The Export Transportation Specialist is responsible for developing and managing programs related to packaging, warehousing, export order management, container drayage and pooling initiatives in support of export operations for multiple business units with an annual cumulative volume exceeding 2.0 Billion lbs.


In addition, the Export Transportation Specialist is responsible for conducting, coordinating, making preliminary determinations and recommendations associated with performance reviews, audits and gap assessments related to company internal standards as well as industry standards including OCS (Operation Clean Sweep).


  • Lead oversight activities for the assembly and execution of the order book for 2.0 Billion lbs of Polyethylene exported through CPChem’s network of 14 packaging warehouses and 5 ocean ports
  • Establish and manage container pooling programs at various ports and warehouse locations throughout CPChem’s export network. 
  • Manage impact of container detention and demurrage.
  • Reconcile scheduled Estimated Times of Arrival (ETAs) with port information, vessel status vs. carrier information and resolve schedule shift for bookings in jeopardy
  • Manage and design methodologies for placement of both loaded and empty containers at ports and at third party storage locations as well as assignment of orders and reconciliation of inventory. 
  • Collaborate with CPChem Customer Service and Logistics groups to identify orders for advancement.
  • Direct third party freight forwarders to identify and address re-bookings from ocean carriers.
  • Optimize first booking performance and adherence to schedule. 
  • Author and compile key performance metrics for ocean carrier, port, freight forwarder and logistics service providers (i.e. drayage carriers)
  • Develop alternate modes of shipment (Break Bulk):  Key team member required to aid the scale up and establishment of alternate forms of export for PE shipments worldwide including break bulk / super sack export process development.  
  • Manage ECC System (SAP) Management of Change.  Specifically, set up and maintain new material numbers, MOT, Plant Codes and Bills of Materials and methods to backflush material movements.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • New Ports of Export (Business Development) :  Assist in full scale development and management of new packaging business partners / warehouses, drayage providers,  intermodal rail arrangements and ocean ports to expand CPChem’s export capacity and flexibility
  • Audit Assistance / OCS (Operation Clean Sweep) :  Participate in audit and reporting activities at all of our packaging warehouses, and ports as prescribed by CPChem’s internal management programs and OE (Operational Excellence) standards.
  • Industry Assessments: Lead market intelligence gathering, analysis, risk identification as well as competitor assessments for the Transportation Services Group to inform further development of contracting and operating strategies.
  • Input and resolution of customer complaints in CPChem’s CFS System.
  • Invoice review and reconciliation.
  • Supply Chain Operational Excellence team member and Product Line Product Risk Management Team support
  • Business Transformation Project(s) Support
  • Incident response investigation team member and investigation follow up
  • Key contributor to the development of the Supply Chain Budget and Strategy
  • Backup team member for other Transportation Specialists within the group

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a discipline in Supply Chain, Engineering, Economics, Logistics, Chemistry or other technical field preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years' petrochemical and/or transportation and logistics experience. 
  • Ability to create and analyze complex data as needed.
  • Intermediate level expertise with Microsoft Office software applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with relationship management experience and superior written/verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to drive change with process improvement focus and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience related to freight forwarding, export operations, polymer packaging, warehousing, or ocean carrier containerized transport.
  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • Ability to develop and foster customer and supplier relationships.
