Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPChem) is seeking an Automation Engineer to join the Bartlesville Research & Technology team in Bartlesville, OK.  The Automation Engineer will report to the Plastics Technical Center (PTC) manager and will support the operation and continuous improvement needs for the PTC Fabrication and Materials Evaluation Laboratory (MEL) group. The successful candidate will also support site initiatives and projects as needed.   #HPCP


  • Design and implement manufacturing technology to automate production processes.
  • Participate in the selection or design of equipment specifications to ensure all company safety requirements are met. 
  • Responsible for the design, hardware, selection, controls configuration and documentation of processes. 
  • Oversee/perform the installation and training of personnel on automated systems. Conduct validation testing to ensure proper function and output data/calculations are accurate.
  • Troubleshoot equipment that is not functioning properly. Repair or coordinate vendor repairs as necessary.
  • Work with testing labs, customer tech service groups, and business units to sustain operational and technical excellence in testing of polymeric materials.
  • Assist with review of analytical calculations of onsite MEL test results for internal and external customers. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or science related discipline OR High School Diploma/GED with at least 5 years industry related experience.
  • Statistics and Engineering Mathematics knowledge.
  • Must have proven experience in PLC logic and programming.
  • Knowledge of panel design, layout, bill of materials and wiring schematic capabilities with experience reading and red-lining P&ID and electrical diagrams.
  • Effective teamwork skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with peers, clients, and business partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively in technical and non-technical business environments.
  • Possess ability to make and restore images of standalone instrument computers, perform PC troubleshooting using low level file system tools.
  • Ability to configure computer networking in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Ability to create and execute offsite Factory Acceptance Trial scenarios to benchmark new equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform gauge R&R and determine test result equivalency.
  • Experience with programming and maintaining robotic testing machines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Materials Science (polymer emphasis) and Electrical Engineering (ECE track) advanced degree.
  • At least 2 years hands-on analytical and polymer processing experience or at least 5 years of analytical experience.
  • Ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices, as well as provide detailed documentation upon project completion. 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems with plastics process equipment and controls.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting computer/automation control systems.
  • Knowledge of SAP to enter, track and complete Purchase Orders and projects.
  • Cisco IOS experience.
  • PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens systems.
