Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Research Technician to work within our Research & Technology organization in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  The Research Technician will be responsible for carrying out laboratory functions activities aimed at catalyst evaluations, product development, or plant support. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Test catalysts in laboratory reactors.
  • Gather data and evaluate products.
  • Maintain and operate autoclave reactors for catalyst testing.
  • Safely handle air-sensitive chemicals and chemical reactions.
  • Assist Research Chemist in synthesis of compounds to be used in catalyst systems.
  • Prepare catalysts for use in lab reactors or pilot plant reactors.
  • Conduct experiments in bench scale glass apparatus, which includes apparatus assembly and operations (e.g. reflux, distillation, rotary evaporation etc.)
  • Maintain laboratory gas and chemical supplies as well as various pieces of lab equipment (e.g. pumps, glove boxes etc.).
  • Conduct basic mechanical work (e.g. basic tubing, fitting and valve assembly using basic tools).
  • Conduct sample analysis using instruments such as GC-FID
  • Prepare and submit samples for analyses.
  • Maintain research records.
  • Purchase, inventory, store, transfer, recycle and dispose of chemicals up to drum quantities.
  • Perform safety inspections, resolve any safety issues and maintain safety documentation.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • The ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to complete assigned work with minimal supervision.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a science related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with handling of various lab equipment (e.g. lab glassware, vacuum distillation, Autoclave reactors, Swagelok fittings, etc.).
  • Chemistry or other STEM-related discipline experience from taking college level classes.
  • The ability to identify and understand the potential hazards of chemicals.
  • Familiarity with high pressure autoclaves, their construction, and their safe operation.
  • Familiarity with pyrophoric materials and their safe handling.
  • Hands-on experience with air-sensitive handling techniques including glove box usage.
