The position involves providing technical services to multiple customers across multiple application segments for customers using Chevron Phillips’ Blow Molding Polyethylene (PE) products.  The candidate will have responsibility for addressing customer technical issues and also developing and demonstrating uses and advantages of company products through application development work.  This position will be responsible for coordinating all activities relating to customer product related issues, customer complaints, material evaluations, new application developments, new product/resin developments and participation in major PE industry forums. 

 

This person must be a team player and will be required to interact closely with Sales, Marketing, QA/QC, Research and Development and plant Manufacturing groups and personnel to address customer issues and determine corrective action for customer follow-up.  This position will work closely with Sales to ensure that customer needs are being met and with Manufacturing to resolve customer complaints. This position may also involve technical service support for overseas blow molding customers and applications in conjunction with regional Technical Service personnel.

 

Some typical responsibilities of this position will be as follows:

 

  • Provide Technical Service for assigned customers and provide backup coverage for fellow group member customers
  • Promote Safety and Operational Excellence
  • Provide weekly updates
  • Support and assist sales growth by:
    • Translating market needs into technical targets
    • Providing resin recommendations
    • Resolving customer issues
    • Conducting customer trials
    • Finding new applications for existing resins
  • Support the PE Resin Development/Improvement Process
  • Participate in developmental projects for Blow-Molding product segments
  • Support new technology developments through R&T resin evaluations
  • Support Licensing activities
  • Maintain resin property/performance competitive database
  • Execute resin evaluations & benchmarking (CPChem & competitors)
  • Carry out plant/resin validations (Orange, Pasadena, Cedar Bayou, Q-Chem, CPSC, SPCo)
  • Support JV activities
  • Participate in the CPChem Plastics Sustainability Team
  • Conduct blow molding product-related complaint resolution (CFS)
  • Maintain customer contacts and relationships
  • Provide customer training
  • Represent CPChem in industry forums to ensure that initiatives and standards are technically correct and relevant to CPChem business needs

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • B.S (minimum) or M.S. or Ph.D. in one or more of the following fields -  Polymers/Plastics/Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Materials Science and 5+ years of experience and knowledge of plastics processing operations and extrusion technology OR an A.S. Degree in one or more of the following fields -  Polymers/Plastics/Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Materials Science with 15+ years of experience and knowledge of plastics processing operations and extrusion technology
  • Strong basic computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, data collection and basic data analysis

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Good working knowledge and familiarity with Polyethylene resins, products and applications
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with blow molding operations
  • Hands-on and theoretical knowledge and experience with polymer characterization methods/tools including thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DMA, DMTA), rheology (dynamic, capillary), FTIR, NMR, TEM, SEM, etc.
