Purpose/Introduction

This position applies engineering principles and practices to provide technical support and solutions to affect the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the Borger Manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Resolving and providing technical solutions to operating problems, serving as project coordinator on various engineering projects, making economic evaluations on engineering alternatives Originating and/or working with others to generate requirements and design specifications for new processes or equipment or modifications to existing processes or equipment; troubleshooting operating problems Facilitating hazard reviews Facilitating Supplemental investigations Providing PHA and MOC support Making recommendations to management Working closely with operators and craftsmen to resolve operating problems Mentoring other engineers The Operations Engineer also supports the daily operation of the Units through issuing of daily operating instructions with the Operations Assistant. Other support includes incident investigations and environmental emissions calculations and reporting as required.  This position assists in production planning and optimization, including feedstock planning and requisition, tank management, and production performance tracking. The Operations Engineer is also responsible for ensuring product quality and is a primary point of contact for working with the laboratory, the shipping department, and in working with the business to answer customer complaints. Demonstrate safety leadership and lead by example to influence improved safety behaviors throughout the plant.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Monitor unit operations daily and works with crews to communicate and implement recommendations for optimization.
  • Generate and pursue ideas to reduce the risk of production and operation within their areas of responsibility.
  • Participate in unit troubleshooting.
  • Investigate equipment problems and initiates corrective measures.
  • Provide oversight and continuity between shifts for test runs and special projects
  • Assist as needed with coordinating maintenance work.
  • Initiates and coordinates the developments of process improvements. Initiates studies to continuously improve efficiency of unit equipment
  • Assist in developing unit fixed and expense budget as well as monitoring unit budget.
  • Assist with benchmarking studies and coordinates development and execution of gap closure plans.
  • May be assigned Team Leader responsibilities for Incident Investigations.
  • Work closely with the environmental group to understand environmental requirements and communicates information to shifts.
  • Lead improvement teams for the unit as necessary.
  • Provide leadership to the unit in selected area of responsibility.
  • Champion compliance of key safety processes for the unit such MOC's, JSA's, critical procedure audits, procedure compliances, etc.
  • Provide PHA support
  • Provide information, expertise and analysis on capital and special projects, collaborating with support groups as needed.
  • Participate in routine inspections to ensure compliance with plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist other Operations Engineers as required.  
  • Act as a mentor for less experienced engineers

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • 1+ year plant experience in the manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, written and verbal skills
  • Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
  • Be able to demonstrate skills in evaluating and prioritizing work to ensure alignment with the department’s goal.
