Purpose/Introduction

We are seeking candidates for the position of Central machine shop supervisor at our facility in Baytown, Tx. The primary objective is responsibility for leading a team of millwrights responsible for repair of site machinery/rotating equipment. The central shop supervisor is expected be an influential leader that will drive progress on repairs, ensure quality repairs, and return equipment to OEM standards. Some key components on this job will be distribution of resources, prioritizing work based off workorder priority, retaining and managing their team to drive efficiency on quality repairs. Ability to break down objectives onto appropriate initiatives and actions to grow teams’ ability and the leadership/ownership of repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Create a culture of safety and accountability around teams as well as individual work assignments.
  • Follow OMPW workflow guidance to drive work efficiency and work order prioritization
  • Oversee the shop equipment repair schedule including work assignments/rotations, employee training, also day to day team leadership, guidance and corrective actions
  • Ensure repairs on equipment are being performed using drawings, manuals, and returning equipment to OEM specifications
  • Schedule and conduct daily safety/toolbox meetings
  • Ensure all workorders are being completed on time
  • Supervise the production flow within the central machine shop, ensuring safety and the efficiency of the entire shop floor

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Work with shop floor, manufacturing engineers, ERG, and quality teams to resolve reoccurring non-conformance issues
  • Review work plans with planners to ensure shop floor millwrights have accurate and complete instructions and make changes as necessary
  • Continually seek to evaluate and improve work process and individual performance
  • Shop supervisor must demonstrate strong leadership, Customer Focus, Decision Quality, Drive for results, Peer Relationships and Self-Development
  • Understand the training needed to allow central machine shop to perform more complex repairs

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 10 years of hands-on experience repairing machinery in the field or a shop in the refining or chemical manufacturing industry
  • 3+ years of experience as a supervisor of field or shop millwrights/machinists  
  • Proven leadership and effective communication skills: verbal and written
  • Ability to establish relationships with team members and support work groups at all levels
  • Ability to meet deadlines on repairs
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
  • Preparing and presenting reports on machine shop operations and productivity
  • Excellent skill set for managing and driving change
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Machine shop Supervisor or similar role in a manufacturing setting
  • Computer Skills (SAP, MS Word & Excel, database experience)
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage time
