Purpose/Introduction

This position provides effective leadership for the construction of capital and expense projects at the Cedar Bayou Plant. The work group supports Project Engineering, Field Support Engineering, and IEC Engineering through project construction management. This leader plans, prioritizes, coordinates, and aligns the work group ensuring that field execution is completed safely, on schedule, and under budget while keeping a high focus on delivering a quality product. You will supervise, coach, and direct the activities of 10 company Construction Specialists and direct 15 contract construction management personnel. This work group manages $100MM+ in capital and expense projects each year.

Responsibilities

    Manages and aligns the workgroup activities
⦁    Ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget 
⦁    Mentors Construction Specialists/Managers and guides them through the CPDEP process 
⦁    Assists team leads with evaluating projects and defining project deliverables 
⦁    Guides preparation and control of project scope of work, specifications, and schedules
⦁    Ensures standards and codes are followed 
⦁    Provides a strategy for project engineering management and site priorities 
⦁    Assists with contract management for outside contractors 
⦁    Ensures execution project deliverables are completed to plan

Responsibilities (continued)

⦁    Manages financial tracking, reporting, and forecasting 
⦁    Assists team leads in setting project execution schedules 
⦁    Assists with developing and revising project engineering procedures and tools 
⦁    Participates on Projects Best Practice Teams 
⦁    Engages other teams for alignment on projects
⦁    Supports TA project execution and planning timing 
⦁    Tracks and optimizes project execution using industry best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in either Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, or related technical field AND a minimum of 8 years of construction/maintenance related experience in the petrochemical/refinery industry; OR at least 15 years of construction/maintenance management related experience
  • Demonstrated technical competence in the areas of construction practices, general industry and construction standards, and construction safety practices
  • Capable of recognizing the need for, and developing / implementing continuous improvement efforts to improve productivity and effectiveness
  • Ability to coach / mentor
  • Knowledge of Company and Industry design codes and practices
  • Experience managing multiple assignments, people, and projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to influence employees and / or groups who are not direct reports
  • Results-oriented leader with exceptional technical, planning, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience utilizing Primavera P6s schedules
  • SAP project system and project controls experience
  • Project cost estimating experience and knowledge of scheduling
