Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking a Process Engineer to join our Research & Technology facility in Kingwood, Texas.  This position is part of a team that provides technical expertise to CPChem and affiliates’ businesses and facilities.  Sustainability reporting is now standard practice, and CPChem’s goal is to transparently communicate the social, economic, and environmental impact of our operations and products.  This position will provide insight, evaluation, and leadership in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to achieve these goals.  This is an Individual Contributor Ladder (ICL) position in Research & Technology.



  • Provide LCA guidance and expertise for multiple business units.  This includes interaction with various levels of leadership, consultants, industry, research initiatives/universities and subject matter experts.
  • Create and validate LCA models for corporate use in conjunction with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to corporate initiatives that build recordkeeping and database information used for LCA and Sustainability accounting.
  • Determine LCA impacts for evaluations of new technology and current plant operations.
  • Support Commercial activities related to areas of Sustainability and LCA.
  • Interact with industry organizations to understand the latest LCA developments, regulations, certifications, and studies.  Proactively apply this knowledge to influence corporate initiatives.


All candidates should possess the following skills or abilities:

  • A self-starter with solid planning and analytical skills, requiring minimal supervision.  This includes a demonstrated ability to identify and advocate for newly identified opportunities.
  • Fundamental understanding of LCA and its interconnectedness to broader sustainability goals.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Chemical engineering fundamentals with a demonstrated ability to use simulation software and spreadsheet tools.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate in technical and non-technical business environments.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with peers, consultants, and business partners.  Effective teamwork skills with demonstrated ability for leading teams to meet business and technical objectives.
  • Awareness and application of Safety and Environmental principles, procedures, and regulations, including personal safety, plant operation, and process safety.


Required Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering.  Advanced degrees will be considered.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of industrial experience as an engineer or analyst.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with life cycle assessment standards.
  • Experience with polyethylene, olefins, normal alpha olefins, polyalphaolefins and/or specialty chemicals processes.
  • At least 10 years of post-baccalaureate experience in continuous chemical processes.
