Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking an advanced degreed chemical engineering or similar candidate to join the Global Process Engineering organization within Research & Technology. The Process Engineer will be part of a team of technology subject matter experts advancing CPChem technologies through process modeling, analysis, and innovation. The successful candidate will possess a core competency of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations and be able to apply modeling to CPChem core process technologies include olefins, polyolefins, alpha olefins, on-purpose benzene and sulfur-based specialty chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services around process design, engineering analysis, unit modeling, troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Advance process modeling through application of science and engineering fundamentals to provide innovative solutions to CPChem operations and risk management decisions.
  • Provide process subject matter expertise to plant troubleshooting, EHS, PSM, and Operational Excellence activities with CFD as a core competency.
  • Evaluation of new process technologies to identify opportunities for CPChem
  • Employ teamwork skills with demonstrated ability for contributing to cross functional teams to meet business and technical objectives
  • Build and maintain relationships with peers, clients, and business partners  
  • Utilize proficient oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate in technical and nontechnical business environment
  • Be an innovative self-starter with solid planning and analytical skills, requiring minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, BioChemical Engineering
  • Experience using commercial CFD codes in all analysis stages (geometry creation, meshing, simulation, results analysis)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of developing and executing CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent or mStar CFD
  • Experience in preforming various engineering analyses related to new technologies and process safety
  • Ability to analyze plant operations, apply process knowledge and identify solutions to various technical issues.  Demonstrated ability to apply creative problem-solving methods. 
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively assess and prioritize process improvement opportunities, sell the concept, and lead implementation of improvements to make a substantial contribution to the business. Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
