Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking a Research Chemist to join our team at the Research and Technology organization located in Kingwood, Texas. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct analytical testing in support of CPChem business lines and production facilities to ensure that accurate and timely analytical results are provided.
  • Leverage internal group expertise in Analytical Sciences to address customer needs by working in a collaborative manner across the organization.
  • Document and communicate research with internal/external reports and/or presentations.
  • Plan and conduct experimental programs to expand analytical capabilities and methods to add value to CPChem business interests.
  • Utilize knowledge of the industry and analytical sciences to assist in addressing unmet needs.
  • Represent CPChem interests in attending professional society meetings and make contributions in area of expertise.
  • Provide analytical support for CPChem global ethylene production facilities.
  • Provide analytical support for heterogeneous catalyst analysis including chemisorption/physisorption analyses (temperature programmed reduction/oxidation experiments, BET surface area, Mercury Porosimetry)

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Must have clearly demonstrated the ability to develop and lead independent research projects
  • Demonstrated background in analytical method development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact well with others and work in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Must be highly motivated and be a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks concurrently. 
  • Must be detail oriented and able to complete work with a high degree of accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph. D. in Analytical Chemistry
  • Prior experience in plant or technical service support
  • Knowledge of heterogeneous catalyst systems and/or ethylene unit operations
  • Experience with physisorption and chemisorption techniques
  • Experience with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry
