Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (CPChem) is seeking a Research Engineer to join our  Petrochemicals Research & Development Team in Kingwood, TX (a residential suburb of Houston, TX).  


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations and procedures.
  • Design and conduct independent R&D projects for sustainable feedstock development using batch and continuous lab-scale reactor systems.
  • Support development of separations opportunities to promote more sustainable petrochemical processes.
  • Support corporate sustainability initiatives through technology watch and participation on multi-functional strategic teams.
  • Facilitate scale-up of catalyst or process improvements to commercial units and support commercial operations as needed.
  • Perform engineering and economic assessments of R&D projects.
  • Develop and maintain kinetic and/or process simulation models.
  • Effectively communicate with cross-functional teams of researchers, lab technicians, process engieners, third-parties, management and business. 


All candidates should possess the following skills or abilities:

  • Strong safety awareness
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate to all levels of an organization
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other research personnel in a team environment
  • Strong data analysis skills


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering
  • Excellent computing skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge and experience with lab-scale petrochemical or refining unit operations
  • Experience with heterogeneous catalysis and reaction engineering


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with process development and/or scale up
  • Refining, hydrocracking, pyrolysis, or FCC catalyst experience
  • Process modeling experience
  • Knowledge and familiarity with gas chromatographs and other process instrumentation
