Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking an experienced chemical engineer to fill a senior process engineer position in the Global Process Engineering organization within Research & Technology. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert providing process design, process controls, analysis, and innovation to research and technology projects, major capital projects and licensing opportunities. The core process technologies include MarTECH® loop slurry, on-purpose benzene, alpha olefin, and sulfur-based specialty chemicals.

  • Prepare process design and initial engineering for projects including scoping, preliminary analyses, economic analysis and process engineering.
  • Build, develop and use process models.  The successful candidate should be able to instruct and mentor others on the use of process models.
  • The successful candidate should be able to instruct and develop strategies for implementation of plant models (Smart Plant, Aspen, etc.).
  • Work on a technical project team to support and implement executed licenses – Process Design Package (PDP); Work with and oversee contractors; Technical services, etc.
  • Provide in-office support at a contract engineering firm selected for major projects to ensure detailed design meets PDP requirements, as needed.
  • Review and prepare advanced process control narratives for use in Licensing and CPChem projects.
  • Provide support to CPChem Plants to improve the implementation of technology projects through application of advanced process control technologies.
  • Troubleshoot existing and new plants to improve overall operations and production.
  • Support elements post the delivery of the PDP including 3D model reviews, P&ID reviews, HAZOP, and Inspection to ensure CPChem relied upon information was transferred and implemented correctly.
  • Support CPChem and Licensee plant commissioning and startup activities, typically requiring short term international travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering is required, advanced degrees considered. 
  • 15+ years experience required in continuous chemical processes with working knowledge of one or more of the core technologies listed above (MarTECH® loop slurry, on-purpose benzene, alpha olefin, and sulfur-based specialty chemicals).
  • 10+ years experience process control, DCS, instrumentation, and/or analyzer specification, selection, and troubleshooting for continuous chemical processes
  • Experience in evaluating control elements for suitability in chemical process applications.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing process control narratives for continuous chemical processes  
  • Experience in startup and/or commissioning of complex continuous chemical processes including HDPE, alpha olefins, on-purpose benzene production, or other similar technologies.
  • Experience troubleshooting continuous chemical processes, preferred HDPE, alpha olefins, on-purpose benzene production, or other similar technologies.
  • Experience supporting chemical process project activities including HAZOPs, 3D model review, P&ID reviews, and/or control narratives development/review.
  • Up to 30% Domestics and International travel is required.
