Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join the Research and Technology Team at our facility in Kingwood, Texas.  The Senior Process Engineer will provide technical support to Chevron Phillips Chemical Company’s Project Teams, R&D and Manufacturing Sites worldwide.  The scope of expertise desired includes extrusion and solids handling systems associated with Polyolefin plants.  This position will fill the role of company Subject Matter Expert and will provide both plant and project support of extruder systems, pneumatic conveying systems, bins and silos, and associated equipment and instrumentation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Corporate expert for resolving extrusion and solids handling operating issues with existing facility equipment
  • Analyze data, troubleshoot, and optimize existing plant equipment and processes
  • Participate in root cause investigation teams and process hazard analysis
  • Develop a functional understanding of various polyolefins processes that can be applied to the optimization of extrusion and solids handling design
  • Support Manufacturing and Projects in the technical vetting of company and contractor solids handling resources and personnel
  • Advise Manufacturing and Project teams on available solids handling and extruder systems, providing insight on the best applicable technologies, equipment capabilities and designs
  • Technical and project execution support to capital project teams from Front End Loading through detailed design, commissioning, and startup
  • Develop knowledge of company standards and guidelines, working in tandem with Central Engineering and other departments to develop programs and initiatives
  • Participate in industry associations to stay current in emerging market trends, industry standards, and latest technologies with respect to extrusion and solid handling systems

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Must have at least 15 years of experience with extrusion or solids handling in Polymers (plant design/maintenance/operations experience)
  • Expertise with typical equipment used in extrusion and conveying processes
  • Knowledge of the solids handling industry and demonstrated ability to work with vendors to develop and implement improved solutions to plant related conveying opportunities
  • Knowledge of key polymer properties and their impact on polymer melt flow through extrusion equipment
