Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Chemist to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the laboratory’s ability to safely perform all tests and the generation of data that supports the Olefins and Polyethylene operation. The Chemist will maintain expertise in the troubleshooting and repair of all Lab tests and equipment. This position will also consult with the Operations and Technical Departments to address their needs for Laboratory services.
This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Works in a safe, secure, incident free, and environmentally responsible manner. Leads by example and promotes safety as a core value and top priority.
- Provides and maintains testing services using established (e.g., ASTM) and non-routine methods including some complex instrument systems.
- Maintains continued operation of all tests and analytical instrument systems with focus to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoots and repairs or coordinates instrument repair.
- Learns from equipment malfunctions and provides solutions to minimize or eliminate future incidents.
- Participates in and provides input into the projection of analytical test equipment needs for Capital Expense.
- Promotes, fosters and maintains open and effective communication and positive relationships with customers and peers.
Responsibilities (continued)
- Develops routine equipment and instrument maintenance schedules. Provides training and written procedures.
- Prepares, sources and maintains calibration standards. Responsible for instrument calibrations.
- Establishes and maintains instrument preventative maintenance and service agreements.
- Trains and provides guidance to hourly personnel on established test methods and procedures.
- Serves as LIMS administrator when required.
- Implements and maintains QA/QC information and documentation for laboratory methods and instrumentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related science
- At least three years’ experience in an analytical or quality-control laboratory
- Demonstrated ability to identify, troubleshoot and solve complex issues in a timely manner
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and capabilities
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Customer-focused, results driven, and proficient in problem-solving and analyzing issues, with the ability to effectively collaborate and work with personnel at various levels throughout the facility and company
Preferred Qualifications
- Petrochemical or refining experience
- Expertise supporting valved gas chromatographic applications of LPG and liquid hydrocarbons
- Experience using and supporting Lab Information Management System (LIMS)
