Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking an Instrument and Electrical Reliability Supervisor to join the Reliability Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

 

This position will supervise a team of I&E Engineers, Power Distribution Engineer, and I&E Reliability Specialists. Initially this position will be focused on Operational Readiness, ensuring the plant properly commissioned, and ready to support a safe, orderly, and timely start-up of the facility. Following startup, the job functions will transition to a more traditional reliability role characterized by normal plant operations.

 

This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and complete Operational Readiness activities supporting the commissioning and startup of the facility.
  • Participate in system completion, walkdowns, and PSSRs. 
  • Manage Instrument & Electrical Reliability team responsibilities, goals, and objectives to achieve desired results that align with company goals.
  • Responsible for monitoring and sustained improvement of I&E reliability metrics.
  • Develop and implement asset strategies that improve facility safety, profitability, and efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement of the facility’s Mechanical Integrity program.
  • Develop the Inspection, Testing, and Preventative Maintenance methodologies for I&E equipment ensuring they follow company and industry standards.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Develop Preventative Maintenance strategies to facilitate increased reliability /availability of key electrical equipment.
  • Consult with Corporate Reliability Team for implementation of new reliability programs and standards.
  • Lead and participate in equipment failure and incident investigation including making improvement recommendations.
  • Support Maintenance, Turnaround, and Capital Project teams to ensure new installations and repairs comply with company specific practices, standards, and guidelines.
  • Oversee and lead the assessments of both the mechanical integrity covered equipment and equipment criticality.
  • Establish and execute the Golden Triangle Polymers failure identification and elimination work process to identify and eliminate high impact failures affecting the facility.

Skills / Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and equipment troubleshooting skills.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED with at least 10 years of experience as an instrumentation/electrical reliability specialist or instrumentation/electrical craft OR bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with at least 5 years of experience in the petrochemical, refining, or other related industry.
  • Proficient at interpreting P&IDs, motor control schematics, loop diagrams, electrical one-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical and instrument standards such as NETA, ISA, IEEE, API, NEMA, ANSI.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Safe Work Practice standard NFPA 70E.
  • Basic understanding of reliability assessment processes such as root cause analysis, criticality assessments, failure mechanism and effects analysis, mean time between failure calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP, Meridium APM, and PowerDB.
  • Prior leadership experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical and instrumentation equipment.
