Purpose/Introduction

We are seeking an IT Specialist, Plant Networks to join the Information Technology team for the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX that will be operated by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up. This position will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.

 

The IT Specialist, Plant Networks will be responsible supporting and maintaining the radio system for the site, access control system, CCTV camera system, and the plant alarm and public address system. Initially, this position will be focused on Operational Readiness, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up. Following start-up, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain radio system for the site.
  • Program handheld radio devices.
  • Develop and implement processes for managing a radio system with 1000 handheld radios, including tracking of radio assets.
  • Ensure the reliability and performance of radio communications for critical safety processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to radio systems.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and updates to radio equipment.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless communication and safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of radio system configurations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Provide training and support to staff on the use of radio systems.
  • Install and configure Public Address system, including speakers and alarms.
  • Coordinate the installation and configuration of physical access control systems like badge readers, turnstiles and gates.
  • Setup and configure CCTV cameras
  • Prepare FRP’s and negotiate with vendors on scoping of projects.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of experience working with radio systems, preferably Motorola, in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of networking principles and practices including fiber optic cable, media converters, and copper
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement organizational processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to provide after hours on-call rotation duties with other IT team members

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Certification in Motorola radio systems, CompTIA Networking plus certification, Cisco certifications
  • Experience in a chemical plant or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to radio communications in hazardous environments.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic networks, including termination, splicing bend ratios, etc.
  • Experience with project management.
