Purpose/Introduction

We are seeking a Lab Shift Supervisor to join the Technical Team for the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX that will be operated by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up. This position will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.

 

The Lab Shift Supervisor will be responsible for performing supervisory and technical laboratory duties in support of the production units at the chemical plant. Initially, this position will be focused on Operational Readiness, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up. Following start-up, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations.  #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a role model for safety 
  • Adheres to and ensure team members follow safe work practices, lab operating procedures and contribute to a safe work culture
  • Adheres to and ensure team members follow the Tenets of Operations, COO/OD and Life Saving Rules
  • Guides a team of lab analysts through training, mentoring, and relationship building
  • Develops and maintains the training programs for team members  
  • Troubleshoots and improves reliability for laboratory equipment and work processes 
  • Maintains and improves communications between business groups
  • Communicates quality and reliability issues to laboratory customers

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED with at least 7 years of laboratory experience OR bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related science field with at least 3 years of laboratory experience 
  • Team player with a focus on continuous improvement 
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Operating needs will dictate work schedule. Initial work schedule will consist of working days with transition to a 12-hour rotating schedule taking place closer to the startup of the facility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience 
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and Statistical Process Control 
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) 
  • Experience with analytical and physical test equipment 
  • Experience in ASTM and ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Experience with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
