Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is currently seeking a Lab Technician to join our team at the Orange, TX facility.  We are looking for motivated individuals that have the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work in a time-sensitive environment with strong and effective communication skills.  A successful candidate would need to be able to organize and prioritize while working through multiple tasks to deliver analytical data to production units punctually.  Candidates would need to be able to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and work well as part of the lab team. In addition, CPChem expectation is that all duties are fulfilled safely and reliably with a focus on supporting site quality and continuous improvement. #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Collecting receiving in-process and final product samples from various locations within the site, analyzing samples for multiple component specifications, and reporting data to operations within a timely manner.  
  • Requires familiarity with LIMS, chromatography data systems, and managing SQC charts.  
  • Individuals would be expected to maintain basic knowledge of plant processes and general theory of lab analyses/instruments.  
  • Will work with gas chromatographs, FTIR, XRF, densitometer, melt indexes, presses, and more.  

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED with at least 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or related field
  • Proficient in MS Office (MS Word and Excel)
  • Required to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule including nights, holidays, weekends, and overtime as necessary. 
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35lbs. (responsible for changing gas cylinders)
  • Ability to climb a staircase (one level)
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Instrument maintenance/calibration experience with melt indexers, presses, XRF, FTIR, or GCs
  • Experience with OpenLab ChemStation
  • Experience with StarLIMS
  • Experience working in a polyethylene laboratory/facility
