Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking an Operations Engineer to join the Ethylene Operations Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The Operations Engineer is responsible for helping ensure that the GTP Ethylene Unit design results in safe, reliable daily operations and that the constructed equipment meets process safety, environmental, and process requirements. During construction and pre-commissioning activities the Operations Engineer will assist with validating plant design and Operational Readiness activities. Post mechanical completion, responsibilities will be to help ensure that the equipment is commissioned properly resulting in a safe, reliable, and on-schedule start-up. This position reports directly to the Operations Superintendent.
This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Provide input on the Contractor’s work to ensure that project process requirements and specifications are satisfied.
- Provide input for process safety items such as alarm criticality & management and PSV isolation methods.
- Help coordinate initial chemical ordering and inventory for CC&A items.
- Develop process, process safety, and environmental monitoring tools for startup, shutdown, and steady-state operations.
- Work with Operating team to communicate and help execute start up schedule.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to successfully complete plant inspection & pre- and post-startup items to ensure a safe, reliable startup.
- Following startup, the job responsibilities will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a petrochemical facility or refinery.
- Minimum of 1 year of Ethylene experience.
- Commitment to stay on the project through startup and stable operations.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Technical or Operations experience supporting furnace design and/or operation.
- Previous PSM experience (HAZOP, PHAs, LOPA, MOC and/or Alarm Objective Analysis).
- New asset commissioning experience or turnaround experience.
