Purpose/Introduction

 

Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking a DCS Specialist to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

 

The DCS Specialist provides support and lifecycle management for DCS and PLC systems for the GTP site. The position works closely with operations and provides support for DCS and PLC related maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization and project implementation so the producing assets can run safely, efficiently, and reliably. Initially, this position will be focused on Operational Readiness, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up of the facility. Following startup, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations. This position reports directly to the Control Systems Supervisor.

 

This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.  #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Support efforts to achieve site personnel safety, process safety, environmental, and reliability goals
  • Support for capital and expense projects for the implementation of DCS and PLC strategies, process optimization, alarm management and process information management systems.
  • Participate in project EPC, MAC, and third-party FATs/SATs as required
  • Review and provide feedback on EPC and MAC project documentation
  • Provide input, assistance, and troubleshooting with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to ensure all PLCs and third-party control systems meet Company requirements prior to initial startup
  • Support Alarm Documentation and Rationalization (AOA) activities
  • Create and provide instruction for training Operations, I&E Maintenance, and technical personnel as part of operational readiness activities
  • Develop, improve, and implement graphics, alarms, and control strategies that improve plant safety, environmental, profitability and/or efficiency performance

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Engage in Process Safety Management (PSM) by participating in the Management of Change process including hazard reviews, participating in larger HAZOP and LOPA studies, action item follow-up, and PSSRs
  • Support site in control system off-hour call out duties as needed
  • Maintain open and effective communications on and across shifts within the department, unit leadership, and other operating/functional support staffs
  • Drive consistent application and adherence to DCS and PLC life cycle strategy for the site
  • Drive engagement with plant improvement teams, special projects or corporate initiatives as needed
  • Ensures compliance with of Management of Change (MOC) and Alarm & Interlock Bypass procedures

Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to craft/shift personnel
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A self-starter with the ability to guide and influence others
  • Proficient in reading and understanding design documents such as, P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, and schematics

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in instrumentation, electronics, or related field with at least 6 years of experience supporting manufacturing facilities/projects OR High School diploma/GED with at least 8 years of experience supporting manufacturing facilities/projects
  • At least 3 years of DCS or PLC hardware/software configuration and maintenance experience in refining or petrochemical manufacturing facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV Control System
  • Ethylene or polyethylene manufacturing experience
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs
  • Lifecycle Management experience
  • Experience with Commissioning/Start-up
