Introduction

We are seeking a Process Optimization Engineer to join the Technical Team for the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX that will be operated by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up. This position will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.

Initially, this position will be focused on Operational Readiness, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up. Following start-up, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily troubleshooting assistance, consultation, and engineering support to Operations and Maintenance personnel as it relates to process conditions and optimization
  • Develop and implement process design studies and test runs that provide efficiency, safety, or profitability improvements. Conduct economic analysis for process improvements
  • Participate in the Process Safety Management process by supporting the Management of Change process, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, Process Hazard Analyses, and other technical processes
  • Participate in Incident Investigations
  • Monitor plant performance and quality metrics and provide input into continuous improvement opportunities
  • Support Upkeep of site mass and energy balances
  • Execute feedstock optimization models and communicates results to stakeholders
  • Coordinates data collection for benchmarking analysis, and communicates results.
    Monitors APC models and interfaces with operations team to ensure use and reliability of models.
  • Develops and monitors energy and process monitoring KPIs. Provides detailed reporting and analysis of KPI results/trends in plant reports and leadership team updates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Fundamental understanding of basic process equipment design and operation 
    Awareness of industry and company design codes and process engineering practices 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook) 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent time management and communication skills 
  • Positive attitude and ability to maintain team harmony

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
  • Experience working in an olefins or refining facility.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in process or plant engineering; with the majority of the experience in support of a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing site.
