Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join the Operations & Maintenance team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This position will oversee equipment preservation for OSBL/Utilities. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
During the construction of the facility, this position will be responsible for overseeing the scheduling and planning for equipment preservation activities that adhere to vendor, contractor, and company requirements. The Project Engineer will be responsible for working with contractors to ensure preservation activities are completed correctly and per schedule, along with strategizing to remediate any issues that arise with the receiving and storage of equipment. Following startup of the facility, this position will transition to a more traditional Project Engineer role characterized by normal plant operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Develop strong relationships between contractors, vendors, and CPChem employees to ensure safe and successful preservation program execution.
- Reference company, vendor, and Contractor Preservation documents, oversee a plan and schedule for equipment preservation activities to protect instruments, piping, equipment, structural steel, and electrical items.
- Facilitate and maintain communications between Contractor Preservation group and company to ensure all vendor-supplied preservation activities are completed per the preservation schedule.
- Audit Contractor’s Preservation database to ensure all activities and durations are input correctly.
- Ensure contractor’s shipping and receiving activities comply with Company’s Preservation Management Plan.
- Monitor and inspect preservation activities performed by the contractor and relay any discrepancies to contractor and company Quality Lead.
Responsibilities (continued)
- Develop and execute personal inspection and audit plan to ensure independent review of receiving, storage, and preservation activities.
- Attend weekly preservation meetings with contractor to ensure preservation activities are progressing and help resolve non-conforming items.
- Promote a safe environment by adhering to our Tenets of Operations, Life Saving Rules, Stop Work Responsibility, Conduct of Operations/Operations Discipline, and timely incident reporting and investigation.
- Help to facilitate a seamless transition from construction to commissioning and startup by effectively working the preservation plan.
- Ensure environmental compliance and stewardship during equipment preservation activities.
Skills / Abilities
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs and equipment drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Demonstrated technical understanding of rotating and fixed equipment.
- Ability to prioritize work to align with project and scheduling goals.
- Understanding of safety issues in a hazardous environment.
- Ability to establish respectful relationships with team members at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments such as construction, operations, maintenance, and engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Experience working in and using SAP.
