Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a qualified individual to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX as the Project Engineering Superintendent. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The Project Engineering Superintendent will be responsible for the site project group which leads capital and large expense project development and execution for the site. The project group manages projects up to $20MM using the Chevron Project Development and Execution Process (CPDEP). The Project Group also has site PSI documentation responsibility.
This position will lead, mentor, and supervise a team that supports multiple operating assets and general plant assets. This position reports to the site Technical Manager and has 7 direct reports.
Initially this position will be focused on Operational Readiness by building the team and work processes, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned, and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up of the facility.
This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Lead project efforts to achieve site personnel safety, process safety, environmental, and reliability goals
- Mentor / develop Project Managers and team
- Assist team with evaluating requested projects, selecting preferred alternatives, defining project deliverables, and managing resource-loaded project schedule
- Provide oversight on preparation and control of project scope of work, specifications, justification, economics, schedules, and other applicable CPDEP deliverables ensuring standards and codes are followed
- Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and align the work group activities to ensure that projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget
- Optimize project execution and drive improvement in performance utilizing project financial tracking, benchmarking, reporting, and forecasting
- Provide strategy for project management and site priorities while developing and managing site capital budget
- Own site electronic document management system and process
- Support turnaround project execution and meet turnaround planning timelines
- Engage other departments and teams for alignment on projects throughout the plant
- Participate on the Projects Best Practice Team
- Liaison with Corporate Projects Group and Corporate Engineering
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least10 years of engineering experience in a plant (Chemical or refining)
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- Experience with CPDEP or other gated project management processes
- Commitment to safety along with strong leadership and the ability to coordinate multi-disciplined teams
- Strong project management and facilitation skills
- Knowledge of industry design codes and practices
- Ability to identify gaps, develop and execute improvement initiatives and promote change management
- Good written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in various stages of implementation
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 15 years of engineering experience in a plant (chemical or refining
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience
- Project Management Professional or other project management certification
- Experience in SAP, scheduling, project controls, and cost estimation
