Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking a Quality Specialist to join our team at Golden Triangle Polymers located in Orange, Texas. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

 

The Quality Specialist will be responsible for performing technical laboratory duties and will work with various laboratory instruments including extrusion plastometers, density apparatus, FTIR, GC, X-Ray, UV-Vis, spectrometers, and nitrogen content by chemiluminescence..  #HPCP

 

This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a safety role model (follow the Tenets of Operations, COO/OD and Life Saving Rules).
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Lead lab equipment commissioning.
  • Create work notifications and service POs for lab equipment and building maintenance needs.
  • Perform Lab equipment PM.
  • Perform special lab testing.
  • Participates in customer and supplier audits.
  • Assists in method and Standard Operating Procedure development.
  • Supports the internal ISO audit process.
  • Troubleshoots and improves reliability for laboratory equipment and work processes.
  • Maintains and improves communications between business groups.
  • Ensures the accuracy and precision of lab results.
  • Participates in various company and site quality committees.
  • Provide training to ensure competence on lab equipment.

Skills / Abilities

  • Team player with a focus on continual improvement.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound organizational and planning skills with solid attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/Diploma/GED with at least 7 years of relevant lab experience OR a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related science/engineering/quality management with at least 5 years of relevant lab experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and Statistical Process Control. 
  • Basic understanding of the ISO 9001 standard. 
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems. 
  • Experience with analytical and physical test equipment. 
  • Proficient with SAP, StarLIMS, and other statistical software. 
  • Practical working experience with Gas Chromatography.
