Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips is currently seeking a Rotating Equipment Engineer to join the Technical team for the Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

 

The Rotating Equipment Engineer will ensure that the equipment availability for the site meets or exceeds production requirements while maintaining compliance with company and regulatory mechanical integrity standards. This is primarily achieved through the development and implementation of programmatic activities, monitoring, and preserving the integrity and performance of the equipment. Additionally, this position will be actively involved in the daily operation of the facility taking appropriate action to mitigate or prevent unplanned equipment failures. Initially, this position will be project focused ensuring the equipment is properly commissioned and ready to support a safe, orderly, and timely start-up of the facility. Following startup, the job functions will transition to a more traditional machinery engineer role characterized by normal plant operations. This position reports directly to the Rotating Equipment Reliability Supervisor.

 

This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX, and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.  #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Acts as safety leader to promote CPChem Safety Culture to all project personnel, including contractors, subcontractors, and vendor representatives.
  • Participate and complete Operational Readiness activities supporting the commissioning and startup of the facility.
  • Participate in system completion walkdowns, and PSSRs.
  • Participate in vendor factory and site acceptance tests as required.
  • Assist in completion of licensor guarantee and lender’s reliability tests following initial startup.
  • Develop the Inspection, Testing, and Preventative Maintenance methodologies for rotating equipment ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Establish and execute the site failure identification and elimination work process to identify and eliminate high impact failures affecting the facility.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with equipment troubleshooting.
  • Champion equipment component enhancements as required through the MOC process.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Develop and approve equipment repair procedures and establish the needed quality control verifications.
  • Develop rotating equipment repair recommendations and provide technical support to the Turnaround and Maintenance organizations during execution of equipment overhauls and repairs.
  • Function as a focal point for the Meridium site implementation.
  • Manage and lead root cause failure investigations for rotating equipment.
  • Manage the oil analysis and vibration analysis of rotating equipment.
  • Review BOM for installed rotating equipment and make stocking and quantity recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with at least five (5) years of experience in the petrochemical or refining industry.
  • Thorough experience in rotating equipment, including but not limited to pumps, compressors (centrifugal, reciprocating, screw), and steam turbines (special and general purpose).
  • Knowledge of mechanical standards as applied in petrochemical industry codes (i.e. API, ASME, ANSI).
  • Condition monitoring program experience.
  • Ability to communicate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Knowledge and experience in establishing preventive/predictive maintenance plans for rotating equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least twelve (12) years of experience in the petrochemical or refining industry.
  • Experience in olefins production.
  • Experience with vibration monitoring and analysis of complex rotating machinery.
  • Experience with SAP S4.
  • Proficient in use of Meridium APM.
  • Familiarity with FMEA.
  • Familiarity with Infrared Thermography.
  • Root Cause Analysis Training and experience as a facilitator.
  • Certified Vibration Analyst.
  • Experience working with contractor(s).
